Nevermind! That link was on page 1. After reading this topic I don't want an Alesis.

Hi there.

I have a MultiMix FW 8 mixer running firmware 2.0.

Previously I have had no problems, however since upgrading in whatever recording program I use it randomly stops recording sometime between 0 and 60 seconds in.

This happens to whatever channels I record.

It is happening on two machines, both of which run Vista Business, however I understand Alesis fully support Vista now?

The drivers and firmware are latest available and whatever I do I can’t seem to resolve this problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. After reading this entire thread I may go back to the older drivers but I'd rather not if the current July drivers are any better?

Thanks.

JCoster, that same problem came to me too when updating drivers. So I changed back to the old ones and now I don't have it anymore! Haven't found any good reason to change to the new drivers...

Thanks.

Is it possible to use the older drivers with the new firmware? Or can/do you have to roll back the firmware?

Which drivers did you use?

Thanks.

I use the new firmware and it works well.

The drivers are the ones which came with the Alesis CD. Oh and by the way I'm using MultiMix 8.

JCoster,

As far as I can tell, you are going to be limited to the last batch, maybe 2 of drivers. Those are the only ones I know that are vista compatible. I'm not sure, but you may be able to run the old drivers in backwards compatibility mode for vista-xp , though I'm not familiar with vista and if it is an option. Also, you said you are running vista business - that may be the source of your problem, the drivers are for vista, IMO not for vista business I would assume.

The auto shut off of your recoding process I have no clue on, could use some more details and what programs you are running for recording and any errors or glitching that occurs. Are the tracks even playing even though the recording process was stopped?
I found the last crash of MM drivers was due to a windows update (late nov) that somehow causes my software to freeze when I use the play/stop shortcut key (on mine it is the space bar) I can press it a few times, then my drivers corrupt and everything freezes. I'm back to only necessary updates for the alesis to run and thats it.

If I were you, I would take a blank drive and install xp on it and use it strictly for recording. You can choose to boot up with that drive as necessary and have a clean operating system to work off of. Also, when you are going to record, shut down all unnecessary processes. I'm running xp with 14 processes going in the task manager. Shut off your wireless internet if you have it. Ditto for the firewall and anything else that may want to run- and turn off the automatic updates- that has caused me problems numerous times.

I have found the multi-mix to be most stable when your running xp stripped down. Every time I crash the MM, it has been due to some windows update ad things going out of wack. I have it on its own drive and operating system and it does fairly well. Im just not impressed with windows when it comes to recording, I see a Macintosh in my near future

Older drivers (not vista compatible, so alesis says. If you try them, better back up your system and set a restore point!!) can be downloaded Click here and go to the cool link section.

Hope this helps

Hi guys, i've had this device for sometime now and have recorded quite a lot of material, it's a plug, but there is a reason, all the songs here are recorded using the alesis multimix 16.

I can use it and cubase not had chance to try it with cakewalk yet, but am about too.

Anyhow, if you go this website http://www.visionthingband.com/ they're all recorded via the multimix by me and my brother.

Hope you enjoy.

Can someone tell what the difference is between the Alesis Multimix 16 USB 2.0 vs the firewire model ? Any recommendations as to which one is preferrable? Thanks
