I am buying a pair of 24" monitors. Is there much benefit to touch screens. They seem a bit lower resolution and higher cost in that $300 dollar range. Also a non-touch screen has a thinner edge to butt next to each other with a tighter seam. But if Sonar has a lot of benefit with a touch screen. Weeelll maybe then

I don't have them, but I would buy one.

There are a few threads that address this.  I own a touch screen monitor and, frankly, I don't get much use out of it.  I'd only recommend it to folks who can afford the much higher resolution (thus more expensive) models.  I bought a 23" Acer a year or more ago and while it's cool to show my clients I have touch capability, it's really no more than that.  I had hopes for touch but it seems to have fallen of the radar to a degree.

You need to make sure the monitor is multi touch capable. That is 10 points of contact active simultaneously.

Also consider ergonomics. My monitors are not within reach without leaning, and touch would require close proximity and ergonomic positioning.

Because of this alone, I have not considered touch an option for myself.

^^Same here. This far I haven't once seriously considered getting a touch screen, simply due to ergonomy and the fact that all touch user comments I've seen emphasize that you can't work using touch alone, you need mouse for some tasks anyway.

I seem to be one of the few fans. I think it's fun. I don't use touch all the time, but I wouldn't buy a second non-touch monitor. I would only buy another touch monitor.

For my second touch monitor, I might not care about 10 point touch (which I have on my primary) or super high resolution. Touch is nice. It does get used, especially when practicing or playing with others.

When straight up mixing, I use it less, but it's always nice.

I have a touch screen that I had high hopes for but I find little practical use for it beyond novelty value. The ergonomics of monitor placement are certainly an issue, plus using a touch screen compared to a mouse is like trying to play scrabble wearing boxing gloves.

There are many threads with valuable information about touch screen to help you with your decision. Here are a couple I’ve participated in…

“For me, Sonar appears to have far more functionality than Cantabile 3 but the touch screen control in Cantabile strikes me as superior. Right click function, pop ups for visibility and fine control of sliders, and better knob response for instance.”
