Btw. did i mention in my post above that i hate big klunky user-de-interfaces.... Sonar is getting fuller and fuller and not necessarily easier on the eyes. (Guess I forgot)
I suppose it's nice for all using their android phones to make music....we all know how nice it is to hit tiny buttons on small touch screens. But really wouldn't a nice lean slider have done the job?

The "program for iphones" syndrome is in full force.  I'm currently de-investing in my brokerage that went whole hog this way to other hosts that remember the desktop computer.

The Style Dials were a set of plugs included with the lessor Cake products (Music Creator?) that apparently some people liked (and for those who upgraded were used to having access to) so Cake released them to the Sonar crowd. They are particularly advantageous to the NON Platinum users who don't have access to the more robust suite us SPlatters do.

They are not intended to be better than the top shelf stuff. They are intended to give more control for those on lesser packages and/or add some consistency and familiarity to those who are used to having access to them from other Cake products. For SPlat users they are just another tool (and were advertised as temporary effects to use as you constructed your project then replaced with more appropriate effects in the mixing stage).

This was all covered in the eZine when these were released for Sonar.

What is the issue? There is no need to use them. I sure haven't... (but I might now just to be a contrarian dillhole... or maybe they'll do something cool for me... whatever).

Seriously if this is the stuff people are complaining about we seem to be in pretty good shape compared to a few short years ago.

Thanks Beep, that confirms my suspicions. At first I thought they were April Fool's cartoons......and that I probably might check them out, but not use them. I will try the Grit.

The "Space" one or whatever it's called (the stereo maximizer one) actually seems useful since we are kind of sort of option limited in that regard (we've got the Blue Tubes one which is alright but not great for everything and Channel Tools which is awesome but hurts my brain).

The Grit one certainly might be useful too for vox and bass. I mostly reach for the old Softube Sat Knob and the even older "Tube Drive" module but having another simple saturation/drive thingie to access that might have a different character than those other too is nice.

I forget what the other Style Dial is (reverb? compression?) but hey... just an extra option to toss in the PC chain. I like playing with sounds and I like trying to stay within the PC so if they help they help. If they don't... I ain't losin' nuthin'.

What these are REALLY cool for (now that I'm remembering more) is it gives the Sonar Artist users a "ProChannel" style set up plugs (where previously the Artist customers had NO Prochannel at ALL). It's really not about us top tier customers methinks.

Anyhoo... I'm not expecting much out of them but will give them a go. They might be cool for adding another layer (or different texture) of grit to my bass tracks or widening guitar solos/vocals without going nutballs with more complicated effects.

Cheers, bud. You got a good head on your shoulders.

They need a woodgrain skin to make 'em sound warmer.

The "space" style dial is reverb, Beeps. I tested it on an acoustic guitar track, and it really didn't sound too bad.
