Sorry if I don't feel the installing and rolling back is more comfortable.

This statement right here is something I agree with whole heartedly... especially as an "offline/manual" installer. I have not, and hopefully will never have to, "rollback". I kind of don't trust the process (like what happens to all the new files and you just KNOW that a rollback ain't gonna put things back EXACTLY as they were beforehand).

I'm not even sure how that would work without the CCC anyway (offline). Fortunately I've never had to do it so far but as I said I've only updated SPlat a few times since I got it. I've had pretty good luck with it so far but obviously I'm here on the forum ALL the time to keep an eye on what's up.

I kind of figure though that anyone who is more vigilant on updating to the latest version as soon as it comes out (which is much more than I do) would be able to pop into the forum and check out the goings ons. I would say anyone concerned about it who doesn't have the time to scour the forum as some of us do could post a thread asking for the good, bad and ugly on a a release (and all those since their last update). I've done that and gotten the skinny pretty quick.

Then I just make a decision as to whether the problem(s) outweigh the benefits based on my own needs. Of course a good place to look for those who are concerned is the Problem Reports area of the site which I think is a brilliant idea and should be used/referenced more.

Meh... I get by. Certainly much better than I used to when I had nuthin'. lol

I can set your mind at ease on this one Beeps. I too am a manual updater and have rolled back a couple of times by simply running the previous installer without any issues at all:)

Cool. May I ask how you go about it? Do you just run the installer for the older version and it effectively replaces the newer version (without having to uninstall anything)? That's one thing I've never been clear on.

I've been trying to download each version which I keep in their own folder (with the rest of my compressed downloaded program installers). That way I have them in the event something specific is screwing me up without having to hook up my ethernet, log into my account and download... all of which I find quite tedious.

And yeah... I know the CCC would help me avoid that but I don't like "auto" anything mucking around my system. I'm a control freak in that regard.

Thanks.

CCC is perfect for the job Beep.

You just right click the Sonar Platinum button and select which update you want to rollback to.
It literally takes a few seconds.

At Beep if you go into CCC settings and tick the new verbose option you will see the installs running like X3 days.
So you get all the advantages of downloading easily and get to run them the way you want. CCC never overwrites an installer file so they all stay there in one folder.

Cheers...

Ah the CCC will do this for you. It DLs all files needed and keeps them in its DL folder. They can be accessed at any time. Also the CCC can role back to a older version too. Though I do understand the desire to have control one is not without control using the CCC.

@ Beepster - was curious about all of the same things so I used acronis true image to backup my system drive and tried both methods - unistalling first and also simply running the previous installer over the top of a current installation. Both worked just fine. I have custom settings with my samples, project and track templates, etc on a separate drive, as well as all of my vst instruments data, and none of these settings were lost by either method. The only difference was that if just running a previous iinstaller over a new instalation you may get the occasional 'overwrite newer file version with older file' confirmation message, depending on your system settings.

I too much prefer to do the updates myself and keep a copy of all previous installation files. It's great to know you can go back to any version at any time without concern. It makes sense that it is that simple - there is nothing magical going on in CCC. It's just an automatic installer of exactly the same files.

Sorry guys - didn't mean to fly in the face of your praise of CCC. I was typing a response whilst you posted!

Exactly what CCC verbose mode does.

Good to know we are all happy whichever way we update Dok:)
