Short Story: C3 is all green, but now I've got an error msg and no access to Help. Please help fix this.

Long Story: I'm working through the Jamica updates with C3 and SPro went OK. But when I then used C3 to try to update the Local help doc's, C3 gave me an error about a bad drv or UNC code (??) and failed to update. So, I uninstalled the help doc's from C3. All gone. Let C3 Install (not re-install) the help doc's and now SonarPro can't start it. Lovely.

So, maybe some setting in preferences, like 'Folders'? I didn't see it, but I could look again.

Time to figure out why Addictive Drums doesn't recognize my computer anymore. It ran fine in Cambridge just last month as I started to see if I'd use it. Apparently not, so un-install time for XLN in my Nov cleanups unless it's working in a couple of weeks again.

Sonar is turning me into a computer tech, sooo I'm starting to spend more time with BiaB doin' songs until the BASICS WORK here and then I can get fancy.

Any idea's ? Anyone?

I'm hoping I don't have to thrash the SSD yet again to do an uninstall, and re-install of SPRO itself. I'm not aware of any installation order requirements that may have had a problem. By and large, installers should handle that an SPro's got C3 as well as the local doc's installer. They don't appear to be talking.

I believe this is an indication that the SONAR.CHM file was found but cannot be loaded. SONAR may also throw the message if the file is not found and there is no internet connection. I do not know what message it throws in that case. If the file is not found or the Preference to "Always Use Local Help" is not set and there is an active connection to the internet SONAR uses the help on CW servers.

You can test if the SONAR.CHM is OK by running from Windows. It is installed in the same folder as the SONAR program itself. If the file is bad (which would be my guess), delete it and run the Local Documentation installer again.

Thanks for getting back.

The .CHM didn't run, got deleted, C3 doc's re-installed. Same error.

I've had problems with W10 and help files already, but I don't think that's what's up here.
Perhaps, some wierd W10 permissions thing? I'll check properties on the just installed file that doesn't work.

Sys (today's anyway): W10, Haswell-6 at 3.3, 16GB, etc., SSD-120GB for C:, TB's elsewhere
Network: HW Fiber connect to PC via ethernet, so I don't think there are problems there. And I'm obviously connected, just to be a wise guy.
I'll check the preferences stuff and get back.

I do not believe this is a problem with preferences. It is a bad CHM install.

It could be permissions or virus scanner. If you are running this all out of C3, it is likely using the same installer over and over. It might be a problem with the copy of the installer itself. C3 is supposed to verify the download. There is an option to delete the file on the same menu as rollback and uninstall.

It would be a lot easier to remember where in pref's to go w/ a hlp file, but I'm working on it.
Doesn't the installer do, say a MD5 check or something for integrity? Just asking. I would have expected an installer to repair/overwrite anything that might be a problem for it.

I'm sure it's set to local as I only just dumped the monopoly DSL srvc @ 1Mb/s (yes that's bit). But I fixed that this summer. Still, DL's and updates are troublesome.

Yes

Confirmed - Always use local help is checked. It's generally the first thing I change when setting things up. I could run an MD5 check on the CHM file as well, if you're concerned with corruption, if you would like?

You can if you wish. You could also try running the installer by hand as administrator and the virus scanner turned off. If it were my problem, I would call tech support in about 30 mins.

Deleted. Re-installing.

This is where I used to be so concerned about Dl'S, time, etc. For those less fortunate than I, at the moment, low DL spds (particuarly for diagnostic stuff) is painful and take hours for even simple tasks. Not so much now for me, but even still consider the others.
DL complete, validating files (I thought so, but not the installer itself apparently?).

Installing and ...

Another morning debugging. Joy!
Obviously, this isn't something I would have made much progress with on my own, so I've got my Sonar hat on (and I'm a nuclear submariner and we know sonar's). Still working and this is to a SSD. I lose days to stuff like this.

I need refreshment, but have no idea of installers current progress. It's taking longer than the DL.
