  • Tell Sonar to ignore audio interface? [Solved]

Whenever I have one of my guitar processors (GR-55 or GP-10) connected to my computer when I launch Sonar, it always "grabs" it for the audio device instead of My Quad-Capture. It appears to always use the first one in the list. Is there a way to make Sonar ignore the other devices and always use the Quad-Capture?

You should be able to deselect any device you don't want to use under Preferences...

What he said. P on the keyboard. The very top, Audio/Devices. Select or deselect but my preferences only show whatever device is connected, not all the ones I have had connected before.

I think I know what he is referring to - I used to have Sonar in a prior version do that same thing.  It would fire up with the wrong audio interface, and indeed seemed to me to be doing that same thing - picking the first one it came across - perhaps alphabetically?

For MY situation, I solved it by actually uninstalling the other audio interface drivers, and have not had multiple drivers installed since then, so I didn't really 'fix' anything, I just stopped it from happening by altering the conditions.

I wonder if it IS some sort of alphabetical selection, and may actually BE a bug.

Thanks for the replies, everybody. Yeah I am able to go into Preferences and change it to use the Quad-Capture. My "issue" is that if I don't notice that I've left my GR-55 connected when I launch Sonar then it goes ahead and switches to the GR-55 (first one in the list). I'm hoping there's a way to tell Sonar to always use the Quad-Capture, (which is always connected) and ignore any other devices, or to somehow move the Quad-Capture to the front of the queue. Maybe there's no way to do this but I thought I'd ask.

Do you have the GR-55 unchecked in prefs?

I have never had Sonar grab a device that is unchecked in this list.

Not sure whether you have already tried this - leave both interfaces turned on and start Soar. When it selects the GR-55, go into refences and deselect it and select the quad capture as Bob demonstrates above. Sonar should definitely remember the selection when it restarts.

Thanks, guys, I'll try that. You know, I think I've always just shut Sonar down, disconnected the GR-55, started Sonar again and then re-checked the Quad-Capture. When the GR-55 is not connected, it doesn't show up in the list at all.

Sonar gets information about which audio devices are connected from Windows. Windows scans the various busses, eg PCI, USB etc and enumerates the various devices in a specific order. That information gets passed to Sonar when it starts up.

Sonar will remember the last connected device. Of course you need to have that device available when sonar starts. If that device is not available Sonar will warm that there are silent busses.

Thanks again for your input everyone. It worked like a charm. After I clicked "Apply" once with the GR-55 unchecked, Sonar no longer uses the device when it is still connected ... exactly what I was looking for.
