• SONAR
  • SPLAT hangs at launch...cakewalk not open

This month I have upgraded to Win10 for better driver support, upgraded to SPlat to hopefully fix some bugs and things just get worse. Now instead of the Sonar App hanging It just refuses to launch. It was working OK this afternoon but when the hang finally came, as it always does, it wouldn't launch after the obligatory reboot.  If it finally does launch it hangs (becomes non responsive with no resolve) upon attempting to open a project.
Here's what I have tried so far:
Ensured audio interface drivers are up to date with uninstall and reinstall done.
Ensured all other drivers (GPU, network, SATA, whatever) are up to date, ran the Intel tool as well
Ensured no ASIO4ALL exists on the HDD
Defragged all HDD's
Uninstalled and reinstalled Sonar Plat.
Removed/renamed the AUD file
Scanned then disabled MSE (antivirus)
Disabled all other running processes
Submitted a request for help to Cakewalk (not open on the weekend)
Run Process explorer and process monitor (nothing much other than Microsoft processes)
Screamed, cried and banged my head against a tree.....
Currently running Win10 Pro 64bit, Sonar Plat., Roland OctaCapture interface (USB into a 2.0 USB factory port, not a card or 3.0), AMD 8 core CPU @ 4.34GHz stock -not overclocked, 32GB RAM, out of patience...
Thanks for any help,
All my best,
Keith

Try this, disconnet wifi or internet. Disable antivirus. Also go to device manager and disable internet and network device.

Hmm octacapture...

Have you tried..
Making sure power management is off for the octacapture in device manager.
Update octacapture firmware.
Update AMD chipset drivers (probably from AMD's website).
Update motherboard bios.
Update display adapter drivers.

If it's a specific project you should try ruling out plugins in Sonar safe mode.

Otherwise the nuke option (always a good idea when upgrading, although most don't do it) is to backup, format the hard drive and install Win10 from scratch from boot media.

Cheers.

Mine does that sometimes. I don't know what but the fix (for me) is to right click on the icon on the lower taskbar, click "close window", then the "Master" window opens, if I don't have my interface connected and it opens from there. Sometimes, the Taskbar is greyed out, nothing working up there and the same thing makes it work, IIRC, it's been a while. In any case, starting to close it seems to make it work... makes no sense to me but it works.
Am trying it now, laptop, W-10... VST scan just sits, closed it. Since the JP update, I have gotten a lot of runtime errors related to BitBridge which I have never knowingly used.
(Bold mine:)
MS C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error.
Program C:\\Program Files\Cakewalk\Utilities\BitBridge.exe

R6034
An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

I got six of those error messages and it took the VST scan over 5 minutes to run. I wish I knew how to do a screenshot. My top bar it white, no screensets or other things up there.

Under Views I can select "Main Screenset and others but there are no transport buttons etc. At the top it is a white field with:
Sonar Platinum - [track info] (under that is):
and icon, File Edit Views Insert Process Project tilities Window Help (under that is):
The pane with the PC/Clip/TrackThe Tracks pane and the media window.
I'll try a reload.
You aren't the only one. BTW, I don't seem to have this problem on my Studiocat running W-8.1 hmmm
Closing and reloading now, first I am going to change the VST scan settings. BRB... (FWIW, I changed VST scan to manual and tined it, it took right at 6 minutes with 267 plugins, I don't have nearly that many on my DAW) it takes maybe 10 seconds to scan a little under 125 plugins).. ok, closing and restarting. It scanned when I changed it from automatic background to manual...
I loaded a .CWP in about 24 eseconds but when I tried to open another .CWP it froze and I had to use C/A/D to stop it.
I restarted with North is False (I figure we are all familiar with that, it loaded in under 15 seconds but I still have no toolbar at the top, n screenset options etc.  I will reboot and repost.
I'll also connect an interface.

I had to run get some food... OK.
I hooked up a Toneport UX-2 because it is USB powered and easy. Still nothing on the control bar, I guess that's what you call it. No Screensets, no transport section, no tools section, no snap/marks... no modules at all.
I opened X3 and it's all there.
I will post this in another thread but I wanted you to know you aren't the only one. Try clicking the icon on the bottom of the screen, choose close and see if it starts.

Make sure there's no splash screen for a plug-in hanging things up...check the Taskbar.

Thanks Dok, and J, and Craig,
All driver updates have been done, many have been done and redone, uninstalled and reinstalled just because I have nothing better to do, Cant play in Sonar, cuz it always hangs. Bios is up to date and the hangs happen on any project.
J, I will attempt the Icon click and see if that helps.
Rev. Craig, thanks for your time sir, but this hangs on projects with no plugins at all, (I know, what's the fun in that?, might as well use Audacity),
Now...Musichoo, When disconnected from the interweb, by disabling the network card, I stayed in a project today for a record of 9 (count em! 9) hours hang free. I intentionally overloaded the project with frivolous plugs just to see if I could make it hang, which it did but that was prolly my fault. I will record disconnected from here on out. Thank you sir very much. So simple, I used to disconnect all the time but the past few years I have gotten lazy. Live and learn. Not sure Why that worked but it did! Thanks so much! ...and your music is beautiful!
All the Best!

I discovered that JP or something reset all my projects to Control Bar = OFF. I fixed it... weird.
I hope you get your problem sorted out.

<<Rev. Craig, thanks for your time sir, but this hangs on projects with no plugins at all>>

I'm not thinking that it's hanging while loading plug-ins, but just that plug-ins exist and they hang the scan. I don't know if the recent scanner changes would fix this, but if I had a plug-in where the authorization ran out, sometimes upon scanning I'd get a message about needing to update or re-authorize or whatever. This would sometimes show up on a screen behind the SONAR splash screen.

Try this: rename the folder vstplugsin to something like vsxplugins so SONAR doesn't scan any plug-ins and see if that makes a difference. Probably won't...but if it does, it will give you a clue.
