Windows 10
I have a video imported into Platinum and I'm working on the audio. Just doing normal things like automation envelopes and track splitting and editing. Suddenly, all audio stops and the screen freezes, but the video keeps playing. When I click the STOP playback button, the screen turns mostly black, except for the NOW marker and the window controls in the upper-right corner. When I click on the X to shut Sonar down, I get the popup stating "Sonar has stopped, Do you want to close it, or wait for it to return to life."

The Windows Event Viewer indicates it's an application Hang, with an even ID of 1002. Not sure if Sonar has its own crash log. Anybody have any idea what may be going on? I suspect it has something to do with the audio engine, but that's just a rectal extraction....

Update audio interface firmware and drivers.
Try deleting AUD.INI

Disable arm record monitoring on playback in preferences.

If that does not resolve the issue I suggest rolling back from Jamaica until next release, assuming you are using this version? I am seeing stabity issues with this release.

Thanks, Dok. I updated to latest Focusrite Scarlet driver when I first began using Win 10, about a week ago. I am using Jamaica, and I have been since the day it came out. No problems at all until today's edit session, which was on the audio of an uploaded video. ALso, the only line item in playback preferences that comes close to what you said is, "Disable Input Monitoring During Playback". The default is Enabled. Is this it?

Another bit of info: Since the crashes today, I have been editing other pure audio files (no video involved) and everything has been problem-free. Something about the video.... ???

Check here:

Disable allow arm changes during playback / record...

We could go through all the troubleshooting steps here but I would try rolling back if no joy from my previous post...

Def delete AUD.INI if you updated windows 10 recently.

Cheers..
