Here's a scenario and a question:
 
I open a project (in Jamaica Plain, Sonar Platinum) and label it with today's date. I insert a Synth (Kontakt 5) on Track 1 and load an instrument, say Glass Hand Drums. I start to noodle around on the keyboard and suddenly realize my noodling is becoming kind of interesting. So as not to lose the idea, I arm Track 1 and record about a minute's worth of the idea.
 
It suddenly strikes me that I have to get out the door for work in just a few minutes, but I'd really like to get the idea from Sonar into my Dropbox before I go, so that I can check it out from my iPad during my lunch break.
 
What's the quickest way (least complicated, fewest steps, most straightforward) I can send my track to Dropbox? The sound quality doesn't have to be great; I just want to be able to hear the idea.
 
I know it's kind of a dumb question, but there's almost always someone here who knows a better way of doing things than I do, so I figure it's actually dumber not to swallow my pride and ask. :)

If you have dropbox syncing enabled, drag-drop and go.  How long it takes to actually upload depends on your uplink speed.
 
I like box too.  I've never installed anything for box, I just use the drag-drop functions.  Box is very collab friendly as far as sharing sub-folders and such.

Thanks for the answer, BobF. What exactly do I drag from Sonar? Is it the clips from Track 1 or the folder with the title of the song or something else?

If you're noodling with a soft synth (and you don't have a matching setup at work), you have to render the noodles to a file before you drag it to Dropbox. So basically mix it down, then drag the mixdown. Not that quick, I know, but I don't see another way.

Thanks, Larry Jones ! I was unsure about that, because I know there have been changes and synths can be recorded in real time now. I just am not clear about how to do that yet. I guess I need to reread the threads about that. :)

Yeah, forgot about real time synth recording. If you're just noodling on one soft synth, and you record it "live," I guess you could just drag that audio track to your Dropbox. But if your project is set up with a high bit rate and resolution, it might not play on an iPad. 16/44 is where you need to be for maximum compatibility.

Assuming you mean you open up your projects from your Dropbox folder and do work on them, then the disadvantage I see is that your computer will sync with the server after every change you make unless you turn off Dropbox sync while your working.

I agree that the one issue may be that auto-synch will be triggered with every file change saved to the HD. In any event, I find it advantageous to turn synching off while rendering, etc. to avoid the network traffic caused by checking for updated files. This can interfere with rendering sometimes.
