I run Pentagon inside Sonar X1 Producer.

I'll give just 4 Examples:

Bank B, 008: "Aftertouch Lead";
Bank F, 042: " e - bass (at) ";
Bank F, 059: "mega slap bass (at);
Bank F, 063: "synth slap bass"

When I load any of these presets, the following happens:
- just huge pops an clicks, no other sound;
- faders in the ASIO mixer display overload.

When I move back to other presets (that work all right), more stuttering pops and crackles occur and it doesn't stop until I press the "Reset MIDI and Audio".

The said presets always cause this to happen.

Anyone encountered this? What could be the cause?

I'm having Pentagon problems. When going thru the preset sounds listening to them, after 5 or 6, I also get crackles then it hangs up everything badly. I've checked the ASIO buffers and I'm always running in Admin mode.
Looking into archives, I see other references to Pentagon hanging up but no definitive answers.

Check if it happens with those presets that I mentioned. I'm curious if it's a software problem or a preset problem (although I can't imagine how that could be).

I have tested
Bank B, 008: "Aftertouch Lead";  Bank F, 042: " e - bass (at) ";

with similar result.. so i test no further :)

The resulting volume for the patch is overloading your sig path.  Try turning the volume WAY down before using them, then gradually.  You may also want to consider using a bus with a limiter on it when testing new patches?

Try putting Boost11 on the audio output of Pentagon with the boost set to 0 and the output set to -.3 or something like that.

gcolbert,

you were right.

But: no matter how much I turned down the volume, it didn't stop crashing until I put in the Boost 11. And then the reduction meter showed me -120 dB !!! And the waveform IN - it was no wave form at all, it was all just 2 full stripes (left and right).

Pentagon is a crap. And they keep selling it... Thumbs down!

tomixornot,

can you please post the mail the Support sent you with regards to the preset "Nothing"?

Here it is :

Thank you for contacting Cakewalk Technical Support. The issue seems to be with the patch itself. I was able to recreate the same issue here. For now you will want to avoid the patch. In the future it will either be fixed or no longer included in Pentagon. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
Thank you for choosing Cakewalk!

Best Regards,
