My MasterControl (Alesis) is breaking down after 5 years of intensive use. Today I would like to turn to the material a little pro. I was going to look into the vs 700, and notes with amazement that it has not been published. After long observed the characteristics of the V700 (bundle), I think I need something similar. The SSL Nucleus is far too expensive for what it is and I'm not a fan of Mackie. The V700 had beautiful features (VST controllable, editing, surround, wheel Xray) ... I am looking for something really comparable, for once with an audio interface (the Alesis was like all inclusive) allowing me to work effectively. For now, I'm on the Babyface, it helps out well for me to continue working). Have you any suggestions? Roland does not publish similar machines? V-Mix, it is just to live? No DAW control ?

Just a thought - a whole different line of thinking would be to take that same (large) amount of funds and apply it to a large touch screen monitor.  With that approach as the software evolves your device for controlling things wouldn't go out of date.
 
You could additionally get some kind of controller for moving knobs by ACT within Sonar if you are looking for that functionality and a good audio interface.  Might not be all one piece, but might give you a lot of functionality while diminishing the "this hardware is going to be obsolete" factor.

I know a lot of people are still waiting on the Behringer X-Touch which should be released sometime this year. It looks fairly inexpensive and a decent option. Otherwise, you can always buy a used VS-700.

I'm not a huge fan of touch screen monitors (I've seen lot of things about Raven but, i prefer real hardware). Behringer x-touch looks nice (better look than the mastercontrol) but i'm not fan too of this brend because they have a reputation for fairly cheap builders, and i have experienced some problems with their hardware, so I prefer to point me to the safe values. Even put more money into it. But anyway, this behr is a nice machine (a little bit too small maybe), probably a future competitor of Icon, I think I will follow it closely anyway. When is the release planned? and for the VS700, I prefer to buy new.

I would not take the large touch screen route if you're into long mixing sessions and want to work "console style" ... but that's just my personal opinion ...
 
You could possibly get a VS-700C (the console only) reasonably cheap - there are many floating around. it's still a great controller for sonar ... I wouldn't bother with the VS-700R, there is better stuff out there (the VS-70R is too noisy and and it got Roland drivers which are not as stable as probably RME or likewise) ...
 
As regards new control surfaces ... well, there aren't many choices ... most are limited, especially when working with Sonar as you only have the Mackie protocoll that hasn't been updated in a long time ...
 
But if you are in an experimental mood you might build your own custom solution. Look for posts by azslow3 or PM him - he is working on a new generic control surface plug in ...
