I tried to import an .aiff file today and got an "Out of Memory" error.  After searching the forums, it seems that isn't wrongful behavior but rather the way SONAR operates.  PLEASE tell me I'm wrong in my understanding of this.  AIFF is a common enough format to be support by a "professional class" DAW.

Jay

Anonymungus!
I've imported .aiff files with no problems. Maybe you are out of memory?

Can't tell what version of SONAR you are running. Older versions would generate "out of memory" failures on mp3 files containing non-music data such as images, not sure if this problem is related. SONAR does support AIFF imports.

I import aiff files all the time, I just drop them in the timeline and move on. Doesn't help you much probably, but yes, Sonar can handle them without a hiccup under normal circumstances.

Good to hear others are making it work!

My system is a HPz800 with 48GB of RAM.  After a restart and no other apps running, I still get the error.  BTW - I'm running the latest rev of SONAR Platinum (Everett).  I've never attempted to work with AIFF files before in SONAR, so I don't know if this behavior existed previously for me.  Argghhhh....

Time to re-check settings and preferences.  Thanks for the help, so far.  Any additional info/tips is greatly appreciated!

Unless it's a 50GB file, I doubt that you're running out of memory

Try locating the file in the Media Browser, and dragging it into a track. Like the others here, I import AIFF files all the time without incident. Any chance they're some variant, like Apple Loops, and SONAR doesn't recognize them?

Sorry for crying wolf, guys.  Apparently, the folder properties were reporting falsely.  Created a new folder, moved the files and everything is working like it says on the tin!  Happier weekend ahead!  Whew!

Thanks for the assists!

What do you mean that folder properties were reporting falsely?  I have imported AIFF on numerous projects in the past, with no problem,  But today, with the latest build for Platinum, I am getting Out of Memory issues too.  This is embarrassing situation in front of a client.

Wow that WAS weird.  I first created a folder on the same drive, and moved to that folder, but that did not work.  I created a folder on a second drive, then moved to that folder, and it DID work.  The properties now shows the metadata in the file; i.e., sample rate, etc.
