Been a while since I have had to do this. as long as I have all my vst custom stuff exported and saved-I don't have to worry about losing any of it-is that correct? Reason I ask is-before the update I had vst scan of 154. after update it's 147. So I figure I need to do this?
Thanks so much
Frank

There are numerous updates to the VST scanner and fixes for plugin count reporting that were addressed in the JP update. For example  in some cases orphaned plugins were not being removed from the inventory. So its possible that you may have had misreported counts. Are you actually missing plugins that you know you have?
If anything as of JP it should be very rare that you need to reset the scanner anymore.

Hi Noel,
I believe it's exactly what you said. I did have one issue with Tracks 670 compressor dll. But I have had it before. The VPA host error thing. So I removed  the plug in. So tired of the re install process they have and I do not need it anymore.
Plenty of compressors. I have most all of the pro channel add on's now- So I am good to go....
Otherwise--no issues with the update at all.

Thanks so much for chiming in so quickly.

In a nutshell that tells me that everybody should run a reset and rescan after they update to JP and hopefully hardly ever again after that!

Maybe I am not getting it but we are talking about Sonar 2015 not Sonar X3. Noel just said that it isn't needed now yet you take the opposite tack and say we should. I haven't done any reset or rescan for the last few updates and I have had no trouble with any plugin. Why are you contradicting Noel here?  Perhaps I am misinterpreting what you are saying.

Just to jump back in-I asked the question, Noel answered. I did the rescan just because I haven't in a very long time either. The only things that changed at all after the rescan was the Tracks 670 thing I mentioned. And that has happened before.
The number of presets (which I thought was less did not change after the rescan at all-well, it was one less because I removed one myself.
As I said also, before the update I was at 157 or something-for the longest time now. Now I am at 141, so Noel was right on when he said it actually fixed the number. Hope that makes sense, :-) It does to me, but then again I am a bit weird.......In a good way

"Why are you contradicting Noel here? "

John please lay off the usual attack dog here.... I am not contradicting Noel here, I'm actually reading what he is saying.

This is the bit you are missing John...

"There are numerous updates to the VST scanner and fixes for plugin count reporting that were addressed in the JP update." AND "If anything as of JP it should be very rare that you need to reset the scanner anymore"

Read this bit again:

"AS OF JP"

This wasn't addressed in earlier updates was it?

So in order to take advantage of the improvements you need to RESET and RESCAN within JP once and then after that hopefully never again... The scanner does not automagically reset and rescan itself when you update I suspect. The plugin data does not automagically fix itself either.

I could stand corrected but that is how I interpret it. That's not contradicting.

Cheers..

@Noel If I'm right here, shouldn't we have another KB article like this for JP or just update the article?
Perhaps point to the KB in the next ezine as it didn't get covered this time around?

There has been no need to reset for a long while. That KP applied to the first update of X3 and is obsolete now.
Its absolutely unnecessary to mess with resetting the inventory on each update. The JP changes should automatically drop any unused items in the inventory. Prior to JP there were cases where repeatedly authorizing and unauthorizing plugins could lead to them getting "lost". Thats been addressed now and it should never happen.
Resetting the inventory cannot solve plugin problems. All the inventory does is store information to allow SONAR to list plugins and insert them not to actually play them.

Good thanks for cleaning up that confusion.
Thank f**k I don't have to say reset and rescan plugins ever again..!!
