One trick I try just to eliminate user config issues is to create a new windows user, log in to that new account, then run the software giving me trouble. This helps you identify whether or not user registry data store is corrupt or having issues with permissions somewhere in the bowels of Windows. Since your device seems to be giving you fits this may not work, but what the heck, it might.

Have you tried disabling the overclocking on your CPU?  You're not running your audio off the 3TB drive?  (The >2TB drives have issues in Win 7 - I'm wondering if they've fixed it in Win 10?).  If your RAM is overclocked, I'd recommend undoing that for troubleshooting also.  It's disturbing that Roland doesn't maintain their drivers.  Just recently an old game I like to play (Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri) stopped working on both my computers after the latest round of Windows updates.   I'm 100% certain it was Windows that did it!  If you wanna play with fire, you could upgrade to Windows 10!.

Another thing to try is doing a system restore to a previous point.  If you don't have the problem, you know it's windows or something recently installed.

Peace,

Ian

Thanks again guys, I don't have anything overclocked, everything's running at factory speeds, but I do save all my 'bundle' projects on the large 3TB HDD, when I open them up from there is that the same as running the audio from the large HDD? I haven't paid attention to whether or not this happens before a save to the large HDD and the auto save are pointed to the same large drive. Its probably something with the OctaCapture or Windows as it happens in an old version of Produce 6 I have. I might try the other user, although I 'm the only user but I think I understand what you mean by registry profiles etc. I'll give it a shot. Thanks again so much!
And Kevin, Rogers is an absolutely beautiful area!, I used to play a piano bar there, out on the northern outskirts contained in a restaurant, I forget the name. Loved that area!

I had totally forgotten about this until Ian mentioned it. Is your 3TB drive partitioned? I have a 3TB in this machine that I partitioned into 1TB/2TB when I first installed it, and now I remember the "why" for that (I have rarely partitioned anything).

AFAIK, the 2TB limit was fixed in W7(x64) SP1. W8,W8.1 and W10 should have no issues.

It sure is, wish that piano bar was still here!

Hi Joyof60,

I think it MAY be the hard drive.  If you initially formatted as GPT as I did, you may have delays at times accessing data, which might cause your crashes.  I may be wrong.  I run all my audio off an SSD these days.  It really beefs up a DAW and I recommend at least a 256gb SSD.

I found this about MBR vs GBT:
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/26203-convert-gpt-disk-mbr-disk.html

I think a conversion wipes your data.  In future systems, I'm just going to use multiple 2TB drives, although windows 10 probably has a way of handling the larger drives I imagine.

It may be your Roland card, but it might not be.

Peace,

Ian

I mistakenly used GPT to format my 3TB and 4TB drives and I get delays accessing data.  I have issues! (W7-SP1 64bit)

Thanks Ian, An SSD may indeed be the answer, and maybe multi 2TB drives as well. I may give it a shot. just so mentally fatiguing for the DAW to crash 3/4 the way through a perfect take. Out of every 12 takes, 8-9 are done due to crashes and lockups. LOL, really curious how fast I could finish a project if everything worked right. Ah for my old 'Cool Edit' software...
