I am spending my night looking at music websites and I see Gearslutz has set up a few new sub forums in the music computers section...

ProTools 11/12, Logic Pro X, Cockos Reaper, Motu DP, Cubase Pro8, Propellerhead Reason, Ableton, Presonus Studio One, Avid Pro Tools, Steinberg Cubase and Nuendo, ProTools 10 HDX, Cubase 7 and Nuendo 7.

hmmmm.............

Gearslutz is not a Sonar friendly place!

No point trying to compete with here, any SONAR forum they did would look bad by comparison.

Not enough loops in Sonar for them to notice. If Criag adds another million, and prefix each filename with the word "dub", they might wake up...

Ruh-Row.

I swear if Cakewalk created new matter nobody would give more than a cursory glance.
Some companies seem to just be doomed to cult status.

I honestly don't get it.
Someone do a study.
It's gotta matter now.

It does seem absolutely ridiculous and snobbery of the highest order. Cakewalk has been a huge force in music production since the 80's and while any forum owner is quite within their right to dictate what does and doesn't get a sub-forum, to brazenly leave one out suggests some kind of pettiness.

I read gearslutz sometimes: not my favorite, but some interesting stuff at times.  It is not an evenly distributed cross-section of producers and styles.

Sound on Sound magazine's polls are much more representative of the industry, although some people are voters and some aren't.  It's like Facebook likes.

I think it has less to do with SONAR than Windows. I bet 85%+ of the posts in those forums will be from Mac users. There remains intense snobbery around the Mac and music. As someone who uses both Mac and Windows, the only remaining place where I see the Mac having an advantage is the way the OS handles audio. Core Audio is a thing of beauty compared to what Microsoft has done in the past. Also for really heavy-duty, industrial-strength audio/video users, the support for Thunderbolt may be important.

However, there's still no doubt that you get better performance for less money with Windows. Furthermore, "tablets" like the Surface Pro are way ahead of the iPad Pro, which disappointingly does not run OS X. I'd also take a Surface Pro over an Air these days.

However, what everyone at Gearslutz knows that we're too stupid to know is that you can make much better music if you pay a premium price for really great industrial design.

Has anybody suggested to the forum admin that a sub forum be added for Sonar?  Was the request refused?

Perhaps it was an oversight due to Sonar being Windows only (as Craig suggests above).  I wouldn't assign any foul intent without asking first.

As far as GS goes, I find the S/N ratio too far out of my tolerance range.

Reading Gearslutz is bad for both the mind and soul.
