GearSlutz has it's uses: they're just few and far between.

It's got the best forums for real to bedroom studio building, and acoustics in general.

There's actually some good stuff on Gearslutz if you sift through all the big egos. I tend to lurk there rather than take part because I've seen the tone that develops in some of the discussions and I just think meh. There's a lot of gear snobbery, like people who insist that soft synths will never be as good as their precious vintage analog gear, etc. And while that may be true in some cases, I get the feeling that it's not that they've explored this scientifically, it's more a form of posturing.

I think it has less to do with SONAR than Windows. I bet 85%+ of the posts in those forums will be from Mac users. There remains intense snobbery around the Mac and music. As someone who uses both Mac and Windows, the only remaining place where I see the Mac having an advantage is the way the OS handles audio. Core Audio is a thing of beauty compared to what Microsoft has done in the past. Also for really heavy-duty, industrial-strength audio/video users, the support for Thunderbolt may be important.

However, there's still no doubt that you get better performance for less money with Windows. Furthermore, "tablets" like the Surface Pro are way ahead of the iPad Pro, which disappointingly does not run OS X. I'd also take a Surface Pro over an Air these days.

However, what everyone at Gearslutz knows that we're too stupid to know is that you can make much better music if you pay a premium price for really great industrial design.

I agree that there's probably a lot of Mac snobbery in it. However if you look at the Music Computers forum on Gearslutz, one of the sticky threads is about the Windows 10 rollout and it has over 57,000 views since the end of July. There is also a long running "Today we build our studio PC" thread with close to half a million views. So there is clearly a lot of Windows activity on the forum.

Discussing the new touch screen MPC's down the NI forums. Apparently NI shouldn't do a touch version of Maschine because Apple laptops don't have touch sensitive displays... Nuff said..

Slate doesn't respect Sonar as a major daw, Gearsluts don't respect...
Unfortunately Sonar is not widely recognized as major daw.
And in fact it is not a major daw.
Sonar is oldschool niche enthusiastic marginal daw still.
And to change it Cakewalk should pay more to promote and advertise and to change its image completely, or make it so strong and attractive that mass of people would run and buy it.

Geesh, Mac "snobbery", no respect. Why do people just think the worst?  Sonar isn't possible for Mac users be they snobs or not.  Cakewalk just doesn't interest that many that frequent Gearslutz. That's OK. There isn't enherently something " wrong" with them. I don't get why it bothers Sonar users. It is just a software program used mostly by hobbyists. Nothing wrong with that.
