It would be my guess also -- but what do I know at this point, right? -- that I won't be able to use the all in one interface with preamp, audio adapter and monitor I have now with the Samson once I upgrade.

But for $100 including free shipping to Hawaii via Amazon Prime, I'm hoping I can use it while I learn at least.  The preamp works great with my Studio Pro mike which I'm using for vocals and I'm not noticing any latency at all on playback or record now that I've fiddled with levels in Sonar.  Of course, all I'm inputting so far is two vocal tracks and a downloaded mp3 instrumental.  In short, I currently have an expensive kareoke set up.  Ha Ha.

The keyboard arrived yesterday along with what should be the correct AB connector cables.  If I can get the Yamaha 235 up and running as a midi controller with my current set up, I'll be a pig in clover at least for my current, low-skill needs.

I hope this forum will not be hearing from me with queries on this issue.  But it's very reassuring to know there are experts out there kind enough to give me a hand if  I need it.

Again, thanks to all for your input.  It is much appreciated!

About upgrading the hardware later:
I doubt the Samson USB-interface/monitors will work well with any other external audio interface. My guess is you'll need new monitors with the new interface...

Apparently it has RCA inputs as well as USB. It therefore can be used with other interfaces.

True!  And thanks for reminding me of that.  In which case maybe I'll only need to upgrade  down the line to a better audio adapter with built in phantom power for my Studio Pro C1 mike.

So maybe the Samson two in one isn't as bad as I thought aside from that one major issue re not recognizing ASIO even though their paltry manual indicates that they do.

I would add 2 words to anyone considering purchasing this product -- zippo support.  You're on your own if you don't find it in their skinny printed manual or in their limited online FAQ list.  No forums like this one.  No online support except to leave general comments which will just go into some marketers mail box probably.  No phone support.

So once again, thanks for being here, guys.  Your input has been really helpful! I'd still be floundering without it.
