Hi folks! I was wondering how best to set up a click track panned hard right or left, can i still get a stereo field with the other side for the rest of the mix?

For example: If I pan the click track hard right, can i split the left side of the track into two sides to achieve stereo from two mono tracks? What i'm asking, is I want to have a click track panned to one side of the mix, but not lose the spectrum of the rest of the mix

if you click the interleave button on the metronome bus (or your clicktrack track) to mono, you can pan it hard left or right with the pan button.
(the interleave button is on each track/bus...it's the button that looks like an 8, but turned 90degrees...it looks like a 8 fallen to the side..).

Ok, so what does that achieve?

essentially, that makes the track mono and therefore, the panning can be anywhere and the entire audio signal move with it.

basically, just try it and see what happens.

good luck!

I find your post confusing, to say the least. A click track is an indipendent track. You can pan it wherever you want without affecting the rest of the tracks. The majority of tracks in a project are usually mono. Bass, vocals, guitars each drum kitpiece etc. etc. they're usually all mono tracks which are panned accordingly. Mono source to mono track.

If you are talking about setting a click for a live set, say, giving the drummer the click to the left channel and other stuff in the right, that's another thing.

ADDITION: It popped in my mind that maybe you are not talking about an independent click track but recording the metronome or something??

Hi guys, I have a project where i have multiple tracks already recorded, including a click track, all in time. What i want to do is use the click track panned hard left or right and have the other tracks as my backing. How can I do this coming out of auria (ipad DAW) from my headphone port on my ipad? What I have tried, is splitting the left/right channels with a Y cable coming out of the headphone port, then plug my headphones into one side of the cable, then plugging in the other side into my PA for the rest of the mix. However, by doing this, I only get one side of the mix. Can anyone tell me the best way to set this up for a basic click in my ear and the rest of the mix going into other?

tonydean - the answer to your question is no, not from your iPad headphone out (two channels).  For this you would need three separate sends.  What you need is a CC compliant audio interface like THIS which would give you independent stereo sends allowing you to send the stereo backing track to your PA and another mix (click and mix) to the headphone output.  There are other interfaces, this is just the first one that came up.

EDIT: just make sure it is compatible with Sonar (your DAW of choice)

You're very welcome. Another option which wouldn't cost anything would be to do some sort of count-in. A simple High Hat or Drum Fill lead-in would give you the tempo and get you going. I've done this with commercial multi-tracks some of which have this already built in.

Have fun!
