So yet another new feature is coming up in Platinum.... So what is it? Do people need this? (Top of their list?).

It's not so much a new feature as an enhancement to an existing one. It lets you can hear the results of upsampling in real time so you can decide whether you need to do it or not. Depending on the plug-ins you use, you may not need it at all, or you may need it a lot...now it will be easier to find out.

After mixing an album with upsampling applied when needed, I have no doubt that it can create a noticeable sonic improvement. Given that a DAW's task is ultimately to create audio, that's significant. I'm not a fan of the "wooliness" of foldover distortion.

I welcome this. For me, the non-realtime nature of the upsampling as it currently stands is a bit too cumbersome, workflow-wise, to be all that useful. For one thing, A/Bing the difference is a horribly long winded process. If you can just switch it quickly in and out, that becomes really useful.

Offline upsampling has no much sense without real-time upsampling, because if there is real difference, it is often so huge, that sounding changes significantly, and if one set up some sound without upsampling, it would very often suit worse with upsampling, just because it would sound very different, I think so.

Well, I think your questions were pretty much answered...not much more to say until it comes out and we can test its efficacy.

Craig, some time back there was a thread, I think started by your good self, concerning recording VST instruments and in some cases the result sounding better/different at higher sample rates.
Is this what this is intended to address?
