  • [SOLVED] Using ACT with Novation Impulse keyboards?

I just recently started using my Novation Impulse controller with Sonar Platinum, and was quickly reminded of the issues I had using Novation Automap with the Sonar X series - unpredictable operation with the keyboard (sometime it would work fine and launch the correct project keyboard template, other times not, and for no apparent reason), Sonar crashing on exit when running Automap, etc.
Very frustrating, since I really otherwise like my Impulse 49 controller!

So, I was wondering if anyone had any success using a Novation Impulse as a keyboard/control surface/plugin controller for Sonar Platinum using nothing but ACT, and if so, if you had any tips concerning the control surface and ACT setup?

Much appreciated -
Thanks!

You can try this: http://www.azslow.com/index.php/topic,248.0.html
I have not tried it myself and I have seen no replies/comments about it. But you can be the first one

Your control surface plugin  - and the preset you pointed me to - work GREAT, and without the overhead of having to use Automap!
I haven't tried using the plugin with VST's yet, but so far it seems to be working great for all the mixer functions.

Thanks!

Credits for this preset should go to Hermu. Supporting particular devices using my platform is significant work.

The way to control VST in Sonar is ACT. Read related topics on my forum for possible mapping issues. But there is a new ACT mapping tool from MarKo http://www.azslow.com/index.php/topic,251.0.html. That is how ACT configuration could be implemented from the day one to compete with Automap and alike approaches. While mentioned in the thread, there is a short instruction: you will need Sonar running and AZ Controller preferences window open, in the editor set "follow Azctrl" and "stay on top". Do NOT use ACT Learn while operating the editor, Sonar will overwrite the result on close otherwise. The new mapping works after Sonar restart. New plug-in should be focused at least once and then Sonar should be restarted (so Sonar creates initial mapping and save it).

In special cases manually editing XML still can be useful. More on that I am going to write on my forum later.
