  • Is there an official Cakewalk MP3 encoder for SONAR Platinum?

Anyone have a link to purchase the MP3 encoder for SONAR Platinum?

I don't want to use LAME or any external encoder, I would like the Cakewalk one, if there is such a thing.
I find it absurd that it is not included by default in a $500+ program.

I found this one but it doesn't seem to support SONAR Platinum:

Unfortunately your link to the Cakewalk store did not work for me.

Cakewalk has yet to update information regarding the mp3 activation at the store. Here is a link http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3273106 describing the two MP3 listings at the Cakewalk store. You want the the Cakewalk MP3 Activation.

FWIW this was discussed extensively in a recent thread. Short form: Cakewalk needs to pay a licensing fee for the encoder, and this cost would need to be factored into the cost of the software. There are lots of free ways to convert to MP3 these days and besides, MP3 is waning as FLAC becomes more popular. So, MP3 conversion is something only some people need. Therefore, the people who want it can pay the $9.99, while people who don't need it don't have to pay for something they don't need.

Hopefully the short form will be sufficient, the OP will think "Okay, that sounds reasonable," and harmony will rule throughout the land.

Where do you think you are? Harmony Central?

To the OP: what's wrong with LAME? Is it because you want to avoid external software dependencies? If so, it's worth noting that the "official" encoder is also an external dependency. LAME does a fine job and has reliably done so for many years, and it's free.

OK, that sounds reasonable.

Strangely enough, I don't seem to be able to use the LAME encoder anymore in Sonar Platinum. I've had an external encoder set up for years and when I try to use it now, it says I need to unlock the Cakewalk MP3 license. So I followed the instructions and added a new external encoder that points to LAME or WinLAME and the same thing happens. Of course I can convert to MP3 outside of Cakewalk, but it is handier if I can do it from inside of Cakewalk.

LAME isn't working for this machine for some reason.
I use Sound Forge to do it currently but I was hoping SONAR would have something internal.
I was hesitant to use the MP3 Activation at the CW store because it didn't say specifically that SONAR Platinum was supported.
Worst case scenario; if it doesn't work, I eat $9.99.  I've pissed away ten dollars on worse things. :-)
