Oh GREAT - Now I have yawned too.

At least this iteration of the endless discussion about licensing fees for encoding MP3 didn't venture into the territory of whether or not worms and caterpillars can hear the difference between 48 k and 96 k sample rates.  :)

Worms yes, caterpillars no ...

Neither can discern 44.1K vs 48K though, UNLESS 'Dribble' was checked and 'Dither' was unchecked during the final export.

Squashed worms can actually perceive MP3 as better quality than WAV.

Years ago, in an ancient version of Sonar, I paid for the MP3 upgrade. The unlock code still works fine, and I am using the Lame one Sonar installs.

However, I remember the UI from that old version claimed it was a Fraunhofer version, not Lame. Although I have corresponded with Cakewalk regarding this, I still don't understand why I can't have the original version instead of the Lame one.

Thanks for any enlightenment!

I still have that old encoder that I got when I had Guitar tracks 2.0 , I don't know if it's just me forgetting how to use it but I have never been able to get it to output anything but noise in Win 7 64. It doesn't work in Sonar anyway though, I had to upgrade to the new encoder when I got Sonar 7. I think I had win 98 SE when I got this. Cool thing with the old one was it was it's own standalone exe

"The Old One" was an exe that unlocked the encoder.  If you contact Support, they will hook you up with a tool to unlock the encoder recent Sonar versions - if you had previously purchased a version that included the MP3 licensing.

I went and tested your theory, I don't think they heard anything... hmm..
