What driver mode/ settings are you using for the Octa-Capture? Can you take a screenshot of the Octa-Capture's driver settings page and post it here?

So, another thing you could do is load SONAR in safe mode and delete delete plugs one at a time, resave with another name, then reload the saved version in REGULAR mode... you can then narrow down the plugin culprit.... your MIDI work will be fine this way.....

But, I like Bob's idea as well.. if you can load all the plugins into an empty project and it doesn't crash... you can then load one of the loadable versions from the above exercise and just copy and paste all the MIDI tracks from one project into the other project....

This happens to me every once in a rare while and the above process has saved me more than once.

Good luck,
Jim

Hi, Seth, great to see you back here again, thanks for stopping by this thread :)

I have no idea how to attach a screenshot but i am running ASIO.
Sample rate 44.1 24bit
Audio buffer size at number 6 (256) no other boxes ticked.

Error message:

A fatal error has occurred

Module: C:\WINDOWS\system32\Rdas1110.dll

a dump file has been created etc

exception code: c0000005
address: 000000000296A590:000007FB00000000:0000000000000065

should sonar attempt to save a copy of your work as its about to exit abnormally.

Thats all i have.

When i try loading another project that was created from the same template i get the same outcome so maybe the template is corrupted?

Maybe its pointing to a memory issue. Memtest doesnt show anything though.

Cheers

jkleban, thanks, hadnt thought of safe mode. It literally is just the 5 instances of KONTAKT player so maybe one instance of that? will give it a go.

Its good to be back. :-)

Is SONAR x64 and are all instances of Kontakt x64? And how much RAM do you have in your system? I use Kontakt x64 in SONAR x64 all the time and have never seen such an issue. I used to have only 6gigs of RAM in my DAW and when I would my system would user over 5gigs I would see some apps hard crash occasionally, so it could be a RAM issue of some sort.

EDIT: I also use an Octa-Capture with the 1.51 drivers which is why I'm trying to get specifics about your system.

I'm afraid I can't be helpful in solving your problem. But, I often have multiple Kontakt instances open (sometimes more than five), using an Octa-Capture running 1.51, and it works so what you want to do is possible. Memory could be an issue...I have 32GB of RAM and that alone has made a huge difference in terms of reliability not just for Sonar, but for Vegas and other programs.

I have 32 gigs of rams as well in my machine. I don't think this crash is related to Kontakt at all . I don't have Kontakt on my machine at all and I get the same error message from time to time. I think the best course of action, which is the one I still haven't gotten around to taking, is to submit you dmp files to Cake and see if they can shed any light on what is going on.

I have also tried uninstalling/reinstalling my octacapture drivers to no avail.

^^^^^^^^
They should be able to troubleshoot based on the info in the .dmp files.

Load the Sonar project using Safe Mode.
That'll let you get to the MIDI performance data.
You can then copy/paste that information into a fresh/new project.
(It's relatively easy to load 5 instances of Kontakt and assign the MIDI tracks to them.)

If you suspect the OctaCapture, try opening Sonar and switching to WDK/KS driver mode if you've been using ASIO (or vice-versa).

First things first, I'd get to your MIDI performance data... and get that pasted into a new/fresh project (just in case).

I have a similar problem to this. I'm often plagued with a crash caused by 'Rdas1117.dll' (Octa Capture's little brother). It also seems to happen when Kontakt (with LASS loaded) are in the project.

I've resigned myself to the conclusion that X2a is unstable *BUT* hopefully a fix/workaround will come around.
