I cannot find the Change speed/alter pitch box-grid in Sonar X1 ....it used to be in the audio fx list at the very bottom ....I'm hoping it's not been made obsolete as I use this quite a lot for Les Paul type effects....is it still there ?

I think it was removed with X3. You can do a custom install from your X1 disc and gain it back. However, you're probably better off using the DSP transpose function - it sounds better.

Thanks....I I cannot believe that one thing I found essential ....they took away !

Do you know if it's possible to retrieve it from Sonar 7 via a custom install ? I don't know how I would go about It if indeed it could be done

Yes, just start the installation process for SONAR 7 but check ONLY that plug-in for installation. Don't check anything else. SONAR will install just that plug-in.

But what is it exactly that you want to do?

  • If it's to transpose without stretching time, the Transpose DSP does a much better job.
  • If you want to transpose pitch and stretch time (IOW transpose up an octave and cut the time in half, like Les Paul did), the Loop Construction Views "varispeed" function will do a better job.

The one thing the old pitch shift could do was add feedback for "bell tree" effects. It sounded pretty dreadful, but that's what made it cool ...sort of like that old ADA Pitch Transposer. That's the only reason I still have it installed on my system, although admittedly, I can't remember the last time I used it.

hmm...

Could someone explain or give the exact name of this effects (and where to find it)? I don't think I've heard of this one and I've owned everything back to X1 Producer.

We're not talking about V-Vocal are we (which was removed after X2... which would make sense based on Craig's OP).

If it's not VV whatever this is might have been removed BEFORE the X series 'cause I have no idea what's being described (Grids? Time shifting? Never seen anything like that in any of my versions and I am a Sonar explorer).

Sounds interesting even if it's old.

Cheers.

It was the old FX Pitch Shifter plug-in.

Damn... apparently I had left my SWA X2 FX vid timesheet/list incomplete (and totally fracked up). I keep my own notes on things like this for reference but they no worky so good when I haven't completed them.

I'll check it out tomorrow when I've got the rig fired up. I think I remember this thing. Just haven't played with it yet (or I'm imagining things again).

Thanks.

Once again days spent solving problems after being forced to upgrade...I was soooooooo happy with Sonar 7 until PC upgrade put paid to that slice of happiness.

The effect I'm missing and relied on was Cakewalk Time and Pitch...it was always on the bottom of the Cakewalk Effects column. It was a little grid, bit like an X-Y where the left side was pitch and horizontal was tempo. A bit fiddly but easy and precise.
Now that's gone ....why ?

I tried the looping thing...all I'm getting is jerky erratic playback ...nothing like slowed or speeded up audio.
Secondly I tried custom installing Sonar 7 again and just the Time /Tempo efx....trouble it's not listed in any of the plug ins or efx ....it is there but not in the custom installation or at least as I can find.
There maybe another way to Adjust Tempo/Pitch but do I have too( or want too) spend hours deducing how to do it ?

So I've now to consider something like Magix audio lab to do my "Les Paul" recordings clips ....provided they
haven't also done away with Pitch/Tempo which used to be also pretty good.

Time (and technology) marches on, man. I don't like it either but when the time comes my current system will get locked down so I can continue using it (just like I've done with my last system).

However there's nothing stopping you from fully installing 7 on your new system. It's not supported anymore but might work well enough to allow you to perform this function then import the resulting clip into your current Sonar version (or even make this particular effect accessible in newer versions... any VST should show up if you set your scans right).

It's not that huge a deal and there are ways around this type of thing.

Also... yes there are lots of new fangled this that's and others that you could learn/use to likely accomplish the same thing. I am not familiar with THIS particular plugin and how it works otherwise I would offer some suggestions (Craig already has) but the new gen of tools are pretty good and worth looking into.

I'm not sure how this type of effect helps with a "Les Paul" sound so maybe an in depth description of exactly what you are trying accomplish (and how you used to do it) could help people help you figure out a new (and better) workflow using the newer tools.

Very little gets removed without a suitable replacement... BUT if you are desperate I don't see why 7 wouldn't install on a new system. Heck... if I were ever to rebuild my rig/build a new one I think I'd install every version I own.

Oh... and installing 7 AFTER your current version may not be so great. From what I've read it's better to install older versions first then newer ones but I don't know the specifics. If you are going to do that maybe contact support or ask around.

Just something to be aware of.
