  • Any way to HIDE an envelope? (p.2)

The reason I'd like to hide envelopes, is so that I can freely drag clips around without constantly adding millions of new nodes each time. So I guess I have two questions here:

1) Is it possible to Sonar NOT to add millions of new nodes when I decide to drag a clip around?

and...

2) Is it possible to hide pesky envelopes if they happen to be bothering me.

THANKS GUYS!

I may be interpreting this differently than the other reply-ers....

If you mean you want to be able to copy a clip but NOT the automation data with it, yes, there is an option to "select automation with clip" somewhere (I'm not at my DAW right now or I'd find it for you).

BUT you can also just use the copy function and paste special if you like- this will ask you WHAT you want to copy/paste.

IF I'm misunderstood the question, sorry.

If you just want to hide envelopes from view, uncheck View->Display->Display Ghosted Data in the Track View menu.

If your edit filter is set to Clips, you should see no envelopes.

If your edit filter is set to anything else, you should see only what is specified.

Don

Nice and succinct :)

Ya know, you reminded me that I wanted to look up in the PDF ref guide what they mean by "ghosted data".  I think you just answered that :)

Data type ghosting
Although you can only edit one data type at a time, you can choose to always show clips and
automation envelopes simultaneously. All but the selected data type will be shaded, or “ghosted”.
This allows you to see all data types in context while editing a specific data type.
You can also hold down the SHIFT key and click any ghosted object to switch a track’s current Edit
Filter setting. This is a quick way to toggle between editing clips and automation envelopes.

From the manual page 399.

Shift + Click on data in a track to bring it into focus. All other data will be in ghost mode; visible but not editable. So Shift + Clicking on clips means you can freely edit clips without screing up your automation.

Just beware that even when automation is hidden, if you select a clip and move it, the automation goes with it. I can't find any way to prevent that except the laborious process of cutting and pasting with cutting of automation turned off in the pop-up dialog.

Cheers, Peter.

I think you can still copy and paste clips, selecting just the data without the automation if you want.
