Yes, you're right. Copy gives an option to ignore automation, same as cut. But dragging a clip always takes the automation with it, even if you can't see it!

Cheers, Peter.

Right - so that's why I added the bit about how copying can leave out the automation.  If I need to duplicate a clip, I prefer C&P to dragging anyway.

Just beware that even when automation is hidden, if you select a clip and move it, the automation goes with it.
Cheers, Peter.

Well i tried it and it dint move on mine. If you do it with ghost and copy and or drag and copy doesn't copy the automation. But if you ghost and see a faint automation then when you copy it copies the automation

The reason I'd like to hide envelopes, is so that I can freely drag clips around without constantly adding millions of new nodes each time. So I guess I have two questions here:

1) Is it possible to Sonar NOT to add millions of new nodes when I decide to drag a clip around?

and...

2) Is it possible to hide pesky envelopes if they happen to be bothering me.

THANKS GUYS!

Why do you want to hide it? You need to know it's there. Just change back to clips on the edit filter button and you won't influence the automation-envelopes. The envelope will still be visible as a line you have made but you won't be able to alter it until you change back to automation.

Hey you're right! What I was doing was selecting the clip while the automation was ghosted, then turning ghosting off, moving the clip, then turning ghosting on again, and the automation had moved. But if I select the clip AFTER turning ghosting off, it doesn't move. I've learned something here: ghosted automation gets selected, hidden automation doesn't. Works for delete too. I'll start another thread to highlight this.

Cheers, Peter.

Sorry for the late reply- but wanted to address this- I want to hide envelopes when the visual clutter is just too much. Sometimes I'll have 6-7 envelopes on a single track, and with that much clutter, I can no longer accurately ****-click the envelope I want. Just too much noise!

Thanks all for the great suggestions!

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

this is where Sonar X1 is so NICE NICE and ill say it again NICE.

make your screen set 1 show no envelopes and make screen set to show all the Envelopes. When you are ready hit 2 fix all your stuff all in one shot and see all the envelopes on all the tracks then hit 1 VIOLA you back to work in half a second. no clutter no mess

Not sure if this is the same problem, but once I put automation on a track in Sonar Platinum, I can't even select the clip. I'm sure there's an easy way, but I can't find it in forums or in the manual.

OK....got it. Shift A on the active track to hide/show automation. Thanks, Scott Garrigus!

You can also just use the Track Edit Filter on the track to switch it back to "Clips". I'm pretty sure that what you are describing is just the keybinding that does exactly that (not sure though).

Kind of weird seeing this old thread from before the Edit Filter existed. That must have been a massive PITA arse. lol
