this video shows exactly what i want to achieve with the MPC studio and sonar..the set up is different and hard to follow because hes using something different.
 
i just need a step by step on how to set up and configure.

Ok i see from another thread you have the mpc studio. Is your issue with the renaissance  vst application?
(In which case) have you tried these instructions above? 
 it would really help if you posted what you have tried, and where jt seems things aren't working the way you'd expect. 
also, are you familiar with sonar or other daws? Can you get any other soft synths to work in sonar?
 
 

i have the MPC studio and i did check that out but the studio is different then the models of MPC's. 

Check the second link about using (Akai) Renaissance in Sonar- its X2 but should work the same way

OK,i can get the MPC vst to come up no problem,i can hear it through sonar and see it register in sonar,the problem is when i try to record to a track in sonar nothing happens,the one thing i did stumble upon is i also have the Akai mini 2 (keyboard midi controller) and i can use the keys and pad on the keyboard to trigger the sounds from the MPC vst,don't know if that was by luck or what but that way does work.
but i'd like to be able to use the MPC itself.
and yes all other vst's(soft synths) to work and record as long as im doing though my keyboard.i'm new to sonar and never really had a DAW before.so this is all new to me.

Do you have all software installed, current Rev level etc ? ( is this a new unit btw?)
Your manual says the unit is usb powered and midi connected to the pc- is midi by usb or is it a 5 pin DIN plug?
(If 5 pin, what type of midi interface are you using?)

As for the basics of SONAR, you should check out how to arm a track, etc to be sure you know how to record MIDI onto a track -

Does your MPC appear as a MIDI device in SONAR?
