I pray that the 64-bit Quicktime codec will be integrated SOON - so I can score - please, please, please!

Some more basic to intermediate video scoring implementation is desperately needed in Sonar, guys!

I DO use Sonar for TV and Web ad music beds, and improvements must be made for scoring to picture.

As always, THANKS - and I know you guys will make it happen!

There is a program called "AVS Video Converter 7". It is very simple to use- and you can take ANY quicktime file, and quickly convert it to something Sonar can accept. I know this is lame, but just a fact of life- Sonar is very picky about video codecs. The "IBM Motion JPEG" codec seems to work best for me, though I'd love to know what else people are using!

I can transfer a 2 hour film from .mov to a .avi (using IBM Motion codec) in less than 20 minutes, so it's not that big of a time waster.

Hope it helps,

Alex

I tried this a few months ago, and it absolutely did NOT work for the new Apple .mov files.

Thank you for the suggestion.

I'd LOVE to hear from some of the CW programmers on this...

+1...    It's a bear to work with QT's.   Lately, it's been extra rough.    Vegas isn't cutting it for me.

CW said it is Apple's responsibility to come up with a 64 bit codec.

@Wynnsong - Whats wrong with Sony Vegas?  I was considering purchasing that next for converting videos and chopping them up in smaller pieces to work with.  Now you have me worried

CW really has to decide if they want to offer scoring to picture functionality.

It's very frustrating, because they're always just at the edge of making it work...

I was spoiled working with 32-bit Sonar and the 32-bit QT codec - it was awesome.

For that one brief moment in time, they did it right -
It was like WOW, for once it's HAPPENING, and I can score to picture with ease in Sonar!

I was getting scoring work - JUST because of that!
Because the turnaround time was so quick.

I can't believe they would take this away from us.

In a professional music production environment in 2011, you REALLY need this functionality!!

And most files from serious production houses are 64-bit  .mov files.

To sqye and all - AVS Video Converter 7 works 100 percent of the time, it's not difficult - and totally dependable... and it really (REALLY) isn't a hassle. It's not the most convenient thing, having to transfer .mov files to a different format, but it's quick and easy. Literally 15 minutes of experimenting will get you up to speed, and then you can complain about something else! (with X1 I think there are plenty of other things to complain about before this).

Also a quick note about H.264 Quicktime files- they are NOT the best format to be using inside a sequencer ANYWAY. Although file sizes are pretty small, as far as I know the H.264 compression takes a bit of your computers processing/hard drive power to render in real-time. You're better off converting it to something else anyway!

...and personally, I think it IS Apple's responsibility to provide 64-bit functionality to Quicktime. Would the bakers even be able to do it if they wanted to? Seems to me like it's Apple's product, and their job to support 64-bit, not anyone else's...

Thanks, Alex.

I WILL try it again.

Maybe I'll get different results this time.

I'm sold on your persistence.

Obviously, this is an Apple problem, but it doesn't change the facts.

However, I'm interested in solutions, not complaining, so I'll try your suggestion again.

It would be great if CW focused on their scoring to picture functions!

Thanks, man!
