A switch were sample buffers could be changed to user predefined amounts...

One for recording....    and  another  for Mixing / Mastering

Browser could also open a pallete of vsts for both processes..

Excellent idea. It's a real pain going through the rigmarole of switching. Sometimes I'm working on mix, requiring 1024 because I'm using lots of plugins and then want to add a guitar part, where I need to switch to 64 for lowest latency. A single user-parametered button would be very welcome.

Thanks... sorta like a mix/mastering  and recording modes...

An excellent idea. But possibly impractical, at least for all interfaces, because it's not a SONAR setting, but rather an interface driver setting that involves cooperation from the driver that SONAR has no direct control over. It could end up being a feature that works great for some but generates lots of service calls to Cakewalk for others.

Yeah... its not straightforward...

Would recording a macro type operation work if implemented?

I'd actually like to see many (most?) of the settings buried in Preferences surfaced in the main window, similar to what was done with the metronome settings.

Sorry, off-topic, I know, but I couldn't help myself.

+ Dan.   Something more up-front that would set those back-end preferences to a few predefined values would be convenient.

is this not what the FX ON/OFF button is for ('E' keybinding)?

whenever I experience too much latency to record, I just turn all effect off while making my pass. This is generally for MIDI though, and I may still quantize - so I am not sure if this is still valid for audio... let me know.
