Good advice Cactus.

I believe that surgery was successful tonight. Found the diode at Radio Shack. Soldered it onto the board. Crossed my fingers that I had the polarity correct. Put a battery in and BBII lit up. Plugged in the guitar and played for ten minutes. Same old buttery/ creamy over drive. I use this pedal mostly as a boost. I kick in just a touch more OD and volume. The pedal has a nice added sustain to the Strat.

Cactus,
I still have a Poly 800 II I bought in high school.  I also recently fried a Boss BR-600 digital recorder because Boss (read Roland) includes the circuit protection in the wall wart, not the recorder.  I plugged a 12V adapter for my headphone amp into the recorder.  I don't even think I turned it on, but when I plugged the correct adapter the light on it was blinking and the recorder didn't work.  To add insult to injury, I unplugged it, put in batteries and started to let the magic smoke out of the electronics.  I was recording audio in the field for a short film and had to go buy a new recorder.  Thankfully, the local GC had one in stock.

Sorry for the thread jack.
