It makes sense to me the way Sonar, Microsoft and countless Windows programs function. As I recall, if I first select the track I'm copying info from and intend to paste that info on that same track, no reelecting of the track is necessary - I still need to place the song cursor when I want the pasted info to reside. Should I want that copied information on a totally separate track (which is often my use), I need to tell the software where/when to insert the pasted info. I wouldn't want a software program to assume to know what I want. If I'm missing something, then tell me since this is standard Window's program operation for the past 30 ish years.

An overwhelming majority of my copy/pastes are drag and drop so this hasn't really been an issue. Most programs often fail to read my mind (as in the track I'm "working on").

Why do those who left the product always feel the need to add a "neener-neener" to their post.

Because nobody will listen to them at the Presonus forum?

I'm not very happy with the way copy / paste works since the change after 8.5.
My pet peeve is I'll have 3 takes, vocal, bass or guitar.. and I want to steal one little bit to replace a boner. I split the track and remove the boner, and when I try and copy paste from a different track using the exact same time and length, it erases the part before or after the paste?? Of course I'm doing something "wrong",  but it's such a basic function that we all did forever and now it is quirky and frustrating. I just put up with these things because there is more reasons to continue with Sonar than there is to have to change.. And eventually I figure out the new dumber way to do things...;>

Really? I would think that happens only if the other parts are selected...with the situation you describe, I ctrl+shift+drag into the new position so that a) the old one is preserved, and b) it ends up in the exact same place.

Well there you go, I guess I only use point and drag (with snap to grid on 1/4 notes)  which obviously stopped working with 8.5.

The other parts are not selected. But what I think happens is Sonar in it's effort to preserve the zero crossing point ends up having to overlap the measure line of the new paste with the original track parts. There's no room, so it deletes the whole section.
My solution is to drag the original sections a little off the measure/ beat line, then paste the new part. Now I can drag the original sections back again and it sticks. As you are probably well aware we sometimes need to drag the splice point back and forth a hair to get a nice smooth transition with no artifacts.

It sounds like you may have Replace instead of Blend active?

Regardless, I often do the same thing you've described anyway since the two performances never seem to be perfectly aligned so a little tweaking is needed for the best transition - dragging the clip ends and fading as needed.

Very possibly.

Also, whenever I want to replace a "boner" my method would be to select the source AND destination tracks simultaneously, place the now time at the exact time you want to split from, how hit 's' and split the 2.
Now go to the end of the section, and split again.

Deselect everything, delete the "boner", then select the bit you DO want and ctrl + **** & drag.

Works every time - LEAVE SNAP OFF. zoom in really tightly to see if there are zero crossing points on or very near your split points and position the now time accordingly
