Just like the prior versions of SONAR, the SONAR Reference Guide.pdf is a snapshot of the original help files included with SONAR. Only the website and chm files are updated. There is a feature request regarding the update frequency of the Reference Guide http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3244803

Right... So what was that link about? Once again Cakewalk is fixing something that was not broken to most likely free up resources for some other thing that's not broken... So now they want to send out the upgrades and then we can just wait around to understand how to use them at a later undetermined date? um, yea, ok!

Checkout the first post in the announcement sticky post at top of this forum.
Don't know what you thought no is fixed that wasn't broken.

The most upto date help is always and has been the online help available by selecting it from the Help menu in Sonar.

Try here:

C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\SONAR Platinum

There should be 2 pdf files, one is the Sonar Reference Guide, the other is the Sonar User Guide

Old files...

Yes, indeed! As we know, just the 'snapshot' original user manual files at that location.
I think some of us just want to easily download (or find!) user manual updates, even though we understand it's all available online. None of the dropdown menu options under 'help' in Sonar have been of much use to me. I want to accesss a properly written, indexed, and comprehensive user manual (regualarly updated), where I can easily find any given specific item that's either new to me, or forgotten.
If all the help & instruction documents are online, what the hell is it that we're downloading when we click on 'download sonar local documentation'?

What's a chm? Where on our PC can we find it? Why do we need to keep downloading the old reference and user guides each time?

The chm extension is used for compiled HTML files. It is installed in the same folder as the SONAR executable itself. It is used as the SONAR help file when an internet connection does not exist and when "Always Use Local Help" is selected in Preferences > File > Advanced.

So I found the chm file, looks like an old fashion help file now... So now half the docs are going to be chm and half (the older docs) are pdf... I prefer pdf myself for a faster read. Back to chm, hunt and peck to seek features...

Thanks for the explanation...........now I get it! I even managed to find the latest addition about recording MIDI as audio as it was marked with a red asterix.
