This is probably a dumb question, but is there a way to get a better ASIO on my laptop than ASIO 4ALL?
I haven't bothered reading the zombie thread you revived or the recent posts but it's not a stupid question at all IMO.
Best option... use a proper ASIO interface... of course.
Now beyond that for ages ASIO4ALL has been the "in a pinch" solution... especially on laptops, for years. It sucks but it sucks less than the alternatives and has made massive improvements for me on my laptop when just screwing around and trying things out many times.
NOT a good alternative to a proper ASIO interface though... even though I said that... but it needs to be stressed.
HOWEVER we are currently in a new age where Microsoft has supposedly done some serious work on their own internal audio management shiz. I am not on Win10 but apparently Win10 is now able to get some decent results for audio stuff using the WDM driver mode (or whatever).
So essentially the stuff that ASIO4ALL was using to make it work better than nothing at all (it would wrap itself around those Windows audio driver and trick the programs into working better) can now, supposedly, work well on their own.
I have NOT tested this. I am NOT on Win10. I probably TOTALLY mangled the technical aspect of all that (not a tech and just barely paying attention)... BUT the reports we have gotten from the Bakers based on their tests (it was in one of the eZines a while back) and what the MS people were saying at NAMM this year indicate that maybe... just maybe, the default Windows audio drivers have finally gotten good enough that ASIO4ALL may no longer be necessary.
Do your own research on it though because I am not totally boned up on the issue because... well I have a proper ASIO interface and am not on Win10. I only have a passing interest and wanted to maybe point you in the right direction based on my limited understanding of the subject.
Cheers and welcome to the forum.
