I'm using SONAR platinum, version 21.7.00, on Windows 8.
 
I've just encountered one issue - concerning one particular track that is not responding to the volume change.
 
Currently I'm trying to harmonize the volume levels of each of the tracks, but after a while I discovered that one track still sounds particularly loud no matter what volume I set. Even when I set to "0", when I start playing I can still here the sounds from the track playing as if volume 100. I have to click once on the volume slider before the real volume setting takes effect.
 
I've messed with the various settings such as Read enable, Write parameter on/off, input echo etc. but each time, I can still hear the track until I click on the slider. The most perplexing scenario I encountered is this:
 
I enabled read mode, under track view I selected CC1 (volume), and manually dragged the volume all the way down to 0. When I clicked play, I can still hear the sound. Only when I click on the volume slider then suddenly the sound disappeared (as the setting is 0).
 
But for most other channels, I do not even need to go to this. I just need to adjust the volume slider as per normal and everything will change once I start playback. And the read/write/input echo settings for those channels are the same as this affected channel.
 
Is this a bug on SONAR side, or did I overlook something?

According to your description you are talking about a MIDI channel, don't you? Or is it an instrument track?
 
What kind of soft synth / VST are you sending it to? There might be something the VST does to annoy you ;-) I know e.g. Kontakt loves to reset volumes unless special measures are taken.
 
Is there maybe another MIDI track (hidden, cloned, backup, whatever) sending notes?
 
Have tried to simply change the level of the audio channel that receives the synths output?
 
Did you set it all up from scratch or did you use a template to create your setup?

It sounds like you're adjusting the midi fader (velocity) on a patch which doesn't respond to velocity changes.
 
This should (for now ) all be done on the Audio track

Not sure this is your situation, but I have several times gotten sonar into a state where a muted track, checked and doublechecked to be muted, was still playing ... close and reload fixes it, but it is certainly disconcerting when it happens.

Many thanks for all the suggestions and replies. You are right I am referring to a midi track and am using the ewqlso vst. I may not be able to do it on an audio track since the only audio track is the play engine track which comprises of all other channels too... And closing and reloading sonar didn't really resolve it.

Another thing I just discovered after posting the above.. I did one experiment - I just turned down the track volume to zero and then cloned the track. Then I took turns to mute one track and play back the other. The cloned track had it right - the notes were silent as it should. But the original track still played the notes loud - until I clicked on the volume slider. Both tracks should be exactly the same but they behave differently.

Based on what I described I'm almost certain that it is a bug :/. At least there is a way to workaround it by cloning the track. But I'm hoping if there is a better solution, in case anyone has the exact same problem.

Doesn't sound like a bug to me, otherwise we'd have heard about it.
 
I run the Play engine without this sort of issue. You need to sort your routing out, making sure each different instrument in Play is routed to it's own audio track in Sonar, then you can adjust the volume via the track fader.

Thanks for the reply. Though I'm a bit confused as to routing to audio track. Right now my play engine vst only has two tracks (the audio and the midi) when I Load it up. So all the instruments inside the single play engine share the same audio track even though they have their individual midi tracks. I assign all these midi tracks to the various channels in the play engine vst - and eventually all gets sounded in that singular play engine audio track when I playback. From your suggestion does that mean we need to create specific audio tracks for each midi track so we can change the volume properly? If so, may I know how can that be done?

While I am slightly skeptical about this (all other midi tracks respond to the volume changes well), I will still want to give it a try - I'm new to sonar and there's a lot of things I am wrong about. Apologies if the questions are basic.

When you insert the Play engine into Sonar, you can choose how many audio outputs you want to display/work with.
