I only have the two grays also, while the mouse is hovered over it it has a lt blue box highlight but as soon as you move the mouse it goes back to its gray state.

I think making the background on enabled effects lighter and the blue on enabled+open effects brighter would likely do the job without being too disruptive to the overall color design.

Works for me.  Thanks!!

This would work fine for me...

Though Panu's color choices are even easier to read, it only shows 2 states and not the needed 4...

I like that Craig. I could live with that. My only problem is the way color is used is unintuitive. Red text for bypassed makes more sense to me. Green for enabled blue for open. If color is used it should be clear.

Don't forget states when whole FX bin is disabled.

Maybe this will help...

Actually that does help ... all along I've been puzzled about why it's sometimes blue and sometimes not.
A bit of a "duh" moment for me, but thanks!

Try doing videos with red in them...it generally doesn't reproduce well, especially with video compression. Also green against blue would be hard to see. Besides, I think it's fairly intuitive that "bright" means happening, "dull" means not happening.

Why not simply make it customizable? It is the only logical decision.

I dream that this "Fifty Shades of Grey" interface would sink into oblivion, and "Ultracustomizable Rainbow Sparkles" interface come instead with 30 color presets for anyone's tastes.
