Hello!

I am trying to get my new steinberg UR44 USB Audio Interface to work with Sonar X1.

Here is how I set it up so far:

My Steinberg has four mic entrances:

However, only channel 1 and 2 record in Sonar with the settings I have. See my In options for the track I am recording:

Do you have any suggestions for me to be able to record with all four microphones?

Thank you so much for your help!

Instead of Driver Mode being set to MME, set it to ASIO. Then Under Audio> Devices, select all the Mic inputs and you should have an input available for each mic input in audio track's input dropdown menu. Select the 4 different mic inputs on 4 different audio tracks in SONAR, to record all 4 mic inputs simultaneously to 4 separarte tracks in SONAR.

That's it, thomasabarnes! Thank you so very much for your help!! I tried so many combinations, but for some reason that option elluded me! I really appreciate your help! You made my day (or evening)!!

Let me just confirm something real quickly, if you don't mind.

I put a microphone in mic/line 3 of my steinberg. When I click the "left" option (see image), the microphone records on both meters of the channel, like this:

If I click on stereo, it records on the left meter of the channel; like this:

It seems like each microphone input for steinberg is one side of a stereo line (every two microphone entrances is a pair). Does that seem about right? (I apologize for not expressing myself correctly - I still lack the vocabulary - but, hopefully, the pictures will demonstrate what I mean.)

Thank you again for your great help!

Glad you're good to go, now.

It is normal for inputs to be in pairs.

If you select stereo it's normal for the signal of a mic to only be on one side of the stereo channel, because most mics are only mono. You said: "When I click the "left" option (see image), the microphone records on both meters of the channel..." That is normal behavior, because most mics are mono. SONAR knows when you select just left or right, you are selecting a mono input and it automatically puts the mono signal on left and right channel.

That's great! So as you said, I'm good to go now! Thank you so much for taking the time to help me out! I really appreciate it!

You get used to thinking of Left as odd numbers channels and right as the even number channels/ most ASIO interfaces show;
left =1      3   5   7
Right = 2   4   6   8
stereo both
Don't use the stereo unless the source is stereo like a synth or CD player.
Mikes are mono and best to keep all in mono tracks.

You'll find ASIO to be much, much, MUCH better than MME.

Hi.

I am having a similar problem with Sonar X2 and my new UR44, in Windows 7 64 bits.

I have also tried updating the drivers of UR44. I had already selected ASIO drivers, but the issue is that I am only having 3 inputs (and 3 outputs): 1, 3 and 5. The others do not appear under Devices.

All of them appear and work in the dspMixfx control panel of UR44, but not in Sonar.

Any idea on how to solve it?

Thank you very much!

Hello,

You must turn-off 'channel link' setting on the DSP software.

Regards.
