I think a lot of us use the 2nd monitor for Console View... sort of like keeping the mixer open all the time which is the metaphor I am used to making music with (old school) mixing desk.

There is so much going on during a project that I can't imagine what a PITA it used to be to keeping manually changing views.

I guess I'm the odd man out here...  I keep SONAR's Track View stretched out over both 24" monitors and use D to switch to PRV or CV - I prefer having that extra width available for the timeline or whichever view I choose.

Steve - that is also a good approach, and I do this now and then, depending on the project.

I do as Stevec but am thinking about trying to use the 2 X 24" monitors in portrait mode and seeing how that goes.

I run 2 x 23" but I found having them side-by-side is too wide which means either obscuring my audio monitoring OR pushing them so far away that I have to lean forward and squint :O)

So I brought my Left Monitor forward and down to where a touch screen PC would be, at about the same angle (custom stand) and the Right hand monitor is higher up to the rear. The two monitors and my controller/desk make a triangle.

It's the most comfortable I have ever been in my own studio. Front monitor is Track view, piano roll etc, back monitor is Console, meters, video playback etc.

Works great for my needs. You have to find what works for yours, and don't fall in to a rut with it either.

Have fun!

Hi Ludwig,

Would you mind posting a picture showing your setup?
This sounds very interesting and I think could benefit from your idea, yet I can't fully image how it looks like.

I currently use a 32" Smart TV screen mounted to the wall about 1.5 m away which works really nice, but the 2nd 23"screen doesn't get so much use as it is off to the side because this is the only place where it does not get in the way of the 2 sets of near-fields ...

I had thought about mounting another 32" above the current one, but that would probably turn my Rehab into the Star Trek Bridge ...

Yeah, I know this is really easy to see for myself, but how well is the gap between the screens dealt with this way?  If a channel strip or anything else ended up split, my OCD would get in the way

One of the reasons I like to run the Console View on its own monitor is that I run it on a touch monitor and can mix with either touch of the mouse.  The larger 27 inch monitor is my touch screen while the smaller monitor is for track view.

Just an additional thought to my workflow.

The only real issue for me  with the two bezels is when using CV, but in those cases I just drag the separator between tracks and busses so the questionable channel is completely on one monitor.  For TV or PRV it's rarely a problem, and when it is, I just drag the timeline a little.

I'd be curious how that goes...   never really thought about it before!

I use a 47" ultra hi def TV with track view on the bottom and console/staff/piano roll on the top.

I can get a lot of tracks in each view and all on the same screen.

The uhd lets me have the monitor/tv close to my face (about 2ft away) without losing detail. The only problem is that there is so much real estate I can't see it all without moving my head or dragging a window down to where it is comfortable, but that is a good problem to have.
