• SONAR
  • "Busy" for a long time after recording a track (Solved)

Since installing Hopkinton and now Ipswich (I skipped G), when I stop recording an audio track it's "busy" for about seven seconds before the track is ready. It doesn't matter if the recorded clip is long or short. Sometimes it will stop doing that and behave normally for a few times and go back to taking a long time.

It's not a matter of having a lot of tracks; it's been doing this from the start of a project. Plus, in the past this didn't happen even in projects with many tracks.

I don't know if this is related, but when I started using Hopkinton, shortly before Ipswich came out, I started getting dropouts that caused distorted noises or slowing tempo on a couple projects. One was a new project with not many tracks, all audio. The other was just playing back an old project that never had a problem before. Closing and reopening Sonar would eventually make it stop, without having made any changes to the projects. I haven't experienced this since installing Ipswich.

I haven't changed any settings from the time before these issues began.

Can anyone suggest a cause and solution? Thanks.

Does clearing the picture cache help?

I should probably add that I always disable the network adapter before using Sonar.

I'll look into that. Thanks.

1) Temp disable your audio adapter in windows control panel/sounds.
2) Temp disable your virus scanner
3) Update audio interface firmware and drivers.
4) Update display adapter drivers.
5) Run windows update.

Slowing tempo generally means it's playing back at the wrong sample rate.

Thanks. Actually, the slow tempo hasn't happened since installing Ipswich. The continuing problem is the long busy time after recording a track.

If you see EnablePicCacheThreads in Preferences > Audio > Configuration File, make sure it is set to 1 (the default setting).

I emptied the picture cache and tried some recording to test it. Every attempt behaved as it should.

I know it's been said before, but it's so nice to have this community of generous people so quick to offer their help. Thanks.
