I'm going to have a go at redoing the icons I already made of my specific instruments when I get a couple of minutes of free time. I'm kinda psyched about this new feature.

Perhaps I can take a face-shot of a singer and place that as an icon on the vocal tracks. Is this possible?

It works!  I just rt clicked an icon, like the "mic" in one of my vocal tracks, selected "load track icon" and surfed to my photos and selected a png pic... took 6 seconds...
I'm gonna resave some pics as pngs... this'll be fun!  And yea, really cool for you commercial folks... snap funny pics of your customers, tell um, "you'll see" and drop um into the vocal/instru tracks they did... the guitarist with guitar, the drummer wammmin' away...

I just resaved my wacky self pics in pngs for vocal tracks... and replaced the mic I use to use... Yeee Haw!
 
 
 

Not tried this yet, but you should be able to add any png as a track icon. There are numerous converters to change formats if you have non-png pictures you'd like to use.

you can do it right in windows... just right click the pic,   edit, which brings up paint, then top left blue block with arrow... click save as   and select png....  it makes a copy, not changing the original...
