How do you finish off a Sonar Platinum installation?

with a nice chianti, of course !

No.  You start that sucker up and play with it.

you are clicking in the wrong spot, do what scook showed you to do and all will be well.  open the dim-pro gui. at the top of the dim-pro gui left mouse click in the 'empty program' area. you should see a popup which is the program browser. now click on the + sign then select a program.

Hello again.
Can I just clarify that I will not be recording anything, ever, using this notebook. I'm only interested in playback.
Thus, do I need the Asio4all driver, new drivers for the motherboard's onboard sound (I don't know the manufacturer) or perhaps both?
My notebook is only three days old, I assumed that it's got up-to-date drivers, but I'll investigate if it's necessary.
I can ask the manufacturere, but they take 3 or 4 days to reply to an Email.

visit the manufacturer website to get the latest drivers for your laptop, and also let windows do its update thing, so you're all up to date, try sonar again

If you spent a load of money you should at least consider one of these even for playback.

Am confused...What do you mean by playback only, what is your actual usual case?

OP = opening poster or opening post btw.
Nothing to add my much here other than ASIO4ALL is evil, but I guess worth a try with Realktek.

Cheers...

if your audio interface is using separate drivers for headphone and speakers i don't believe sonar is going to auto detect when you change from one to the other.  there are many differences between fl studio and sonar expect a huge learning curve.

Thank you very much to all who have been helping me.
My synths now produce sounds. F1 does not open a help page, but I'll get documentation sorted in the future.
I'll Email the notebook's manufacturer and find out the motherboard/chipset and check my drivers.
At least I can get Sonar to use the headphones now.

Playback simply means listening to whatever I've entered into the DAW.
I gave up trying to record my guitar on my own many years ago, I put my guitar lines into a piano and use only virtual instruments.
At present I have no spare cash for anything else.
Buying a new notebook was not part of my initial plan, I just wanted better quality instruments than I had in FL, but my desktop runs Vista and Sonar isn't compatible and my previous notebook was below minimum spec.
It will be a long time before I am productive in Sonar.
There are things I can do easily in FL (like pitch changes) which are far more time consuming to do in Sonar.

I still haven't found out what the screen I missed during installation was all about, but if I ever install Sonar again, I'll see it then.

Thanks again and please consider this post closed.

Footnote:
the other screen I missed during the installation was about importing NYC Showroom Impulse Responses into REmatrix solo.
