This is an ancient thread that got resurrected, guys. I don't actually need recommendations on this anymore. Just didn't want anyone wasting time reading/replying thinking this was new. Edited Sept 19/2015.

Hi, guys. Perhaps the wrong sub forum for this but I figure some of you guys might have tried these Bass sims and it's somewhat X2 related as I need to know about compatibility.

So I've been using GR5 for my bass sounds and it's alright but a little limited and it doesn't quite get me where I want it to. I'm thinking I might need something dedicated to bass. Considering how much I like TH2 and the fact I qualify for a discount (I upgraded to the full version) I figured it might be something I'd like. The audio samples though seem to be more geared towards that thick modern jazz sound, which is nice, but I'm mostly a rocker and need something a little more vintage so I'm not sure if it's gonna do what I want. I do think however it will not cause any crashes or weirdness in Sonar because of how well TH2 has been working. Obviously that's important. Here's the product page...

The other contender is IK Multimedia's Ampeg SVX sim. Mr Danzi recommended it to someone else here and gave it very high praise. I've always loved the Ampeg sound and it looks like they really went all out with the modeling. I've never installed any IK plugs though and I'm a little worried that it might not play nice with my system. I know lots of you guys use IK plugs so I'm assuming it'll be alright but I'd appreciate some input. The other thing is even though the Ampeg sound would definitely cover a huge part of what I do I also want to be able to have some flexibility so I'm curious what kind of range this plug has... like can I do country, jazz, hip hop, whatever, if need be? Here's a link...

So tl;dr...

Do any of you guys use these and if so...

How's the sound?

How flexible are they as far as different styles and tones?

Do they work well with Sonar X2 64 bit?

Thanks and I hope you are all having a good day.

GR5 is definitely too limited as regards bass amps

I have never tried the Overloud Mark Studio 2 but I own and use the IK Ampeg SVX. It does sound good if you're after the Ampeg sound (as a 'rocker' it's almost a must to have access to this sound), but
  - it's just the Ampeg sound i.e. not a whole of variety; I got a lot more variety with e.g. my Line6 PodFarm amps, which I often reach for when it's not thunderous rock bass that I'm after
  - Ampeg SVX is still 32 bit; you need to run it inside Amplitube to have it available as 64 bit plug; I reckon Ampeg SVX should load into the free version of Amplitube, but I can't tell for sure as I use the full version, but this is something I would check on prior to spending money

Apart from that IK plugs (at least the ones that are 64 bit already) behave well on my DAW and are still frequently used.

Love the Mark Bass. Line 6 Tone Port with the bass package is really good too (especially the Adam and the GK amps). With that being said the old, grey, bean looking line 6 bass pod hardware still has the best bass sound for direct recording. (In my humble opinion of course) I haven't tried the IK.

Well, I have both. I have used Ampeg for years and yes, it's really good. But I bought the Mark Studio 2 with my TH2 upgrade and I am extremely happy! It sounds brilliant and I don't see my self go to the Ampeg one anymore - especially since my love for their amp packages and the iK-company is not really much to talk about anymore. Mark Studio 2 is awesome, both in use, compaitbility and of course how it sounds. Now, if you don't like the Mark Amp sound, then don't get it. But I'd be surprised if you don't like this plugin.

So my vote is Mark Studio 2 - especially for the price you'll have to pay for it.

Just need to add - I ran a double bass through it on a couple of songs and we had a blast! It handled all the low frequencies and harmonies really well.

Also check out the Orange bass amp in Amplitube custom shop. With virtual bass guitars (Scarbee and Orange Tree) I like it better than the Ampeg stuff.

I have the IK Ampeg SVX, which I like, but recently have been using the bass amps in Amplitube 3 a lot more (even the free one).

I have used Guitar Rig 5 for bass as well, but at the moment my set up (in order of usage) would be:-

Guitar - Guitar Rig 5, Amplitube 3 (particularly the Mesa sim from the custom shop) and TH2 Producer

Bass - Amplitube 3, then IK Ampeg SVX
I've not tried the Overload one, so can't comment.  If you haven't yet, then I highly recommend downloading Amplitube 3 Free, and you can try out the other amps from the custom Shop and buy them individually.  I have also found IK customer Services to be brilliant.

I don't know about you guys but Ampeg SVX crashes X2 every time I try to inset it;
or try to load an old project containing it.
Runs fine on X1.
That being said its "included" in Amplitube 3, which runs fine in X2.
SVT, greatest bass amp of all time!
Why would you use (settle) for anything less?
I haven't tried the others, just a "warning", that for me at least, SVX is unusable in X2.

don't have the Ampeg plug-in, but I got the mark bass and since I got it, I love it on all my tracks, from acoustic bass, fretless, fender jazz sound. It's quite good, very transparent, and never causes any crashes or other issues in my projects. I really recommend it, but of course I'm not comparing it to the others..
I also like TH2, but I am finding the full version of Breverb a little bit disappointing, to be honest. But that's for a separate thread, of course.
