It is pretty weird you'd resurrect such an ancient thread to take a swipe at chuck over that but in a way it's good for me because it reminded me I still need to buy MarkII.
And AFAIK MarkII is capable of the Ampeg sound... but I already have ways to do that as it is with my guitar sims so although I looooove Ampegs (real ones... the old vintage fridge beasts) it's not really something I NEED to drop coin on. I need more varied/powerful/flexible sounds for my needs (and to accomodate my lacklustre gear).
That's not to say if money tweren't a thang I wouldn't snag the IK (or the other sweet Ampeg emus out there) as well but I need a flexi tool.
I've also expanded my experience/education massively since I first posted this thread and most definitely think MarkII is going to be much more useful than a more single purpose plug. I hate to say it but on top of that, I've kind of gotten the impression IK stuff is a bit of a PITA compared to my experiences with Overloud products (which I own quite a few of now through Sonar and through upgrades I sought out) so I've shied away from their brand/model. So many other sims/companies I am dying to try out before I sink dough into IK stuff.
That said... their stuff does supposedly sound good, perhaps better than the others, but on a tight monetary and time budget that cash and study time can be put to better use elsewhere than a single use plugin... if that makes sense.
Also as a current Overloud customer I get a MUCH better deal on MarkII so that's a pretty big factor in itself.
tl;dr... I prefer flexible tools over boutique tools. Less overall money dropped and less time spent studying/wrangling with a new manufacturer.
Cripes, I seem to spend a huge chunk of time just trying to learn how various companies actually DELIVER their products without even opening a manual (I'm looking at you XLN... you weirdos).
