its obvious that not many have used mark bass,
here's  a you tube video, just skip to about 2:00 minutes ,past the guy talking to get right to it in action:

here's the home page:

if you've used IK's ampeg its because it fairly inexspensive and easy to use.
mark bass is much more advanced than ampeg svx.
and its a bass vst not a compbo type like ampg is, ampeg is much like amplitude, a guitar hybrid.
mark bass is all in a category by itself. just awesome.

Thanks for all the input, guys. Sorry I bailed (wasn't feeling well yesterday). I didn't realize the IK one worked with the free Amplitude thingie. I'll be trying out both demos before buying but based on the comments hear and taking another listen to the audio samples I do think the Mark Bass is probably gonna end up being what I go for. I figure it's probably a more modern program (not referring to sounds... the actual program) like TH2 and I really REALLY do like TH2. The 64 bit thing is another selling point even if the Ampeg sim works as 64 bit within Amplitude that sounds kind of like a wrapper. I'm trying to keep everything I own in 64 bit. Also if it's as versatile as some of you guys are saying then I'm sure I'll be able to dial in something similar to an Ampeg anyway.

Cheers and thanks again.

Its a mistaken impression to say Amplitube 3 is a wrapper, its an upgraded that can use the old models. It also makes all the Ampeg modules available in the Amplitube interface where you can mix and match them with any other components you own. Its very versatile.

I am not saying its better than Mark Bass, I don't know as I only have the IK Stuff but I wanted to clarify.

i sat down with the MarkBass demo for a long while. and to me, it seemed to take too much of the character away from my bass. i found it to be a little harsh and industrious sounding. the Ampeg SVX stuff sounded more natural to me, just meat and potatoes bass.

I know that this is an OLD thread, but I find this comment just plain arrogant and insulting in a way. Just because some folks like the Ampeg and you don't does not mean they use it only because it is "fairly inexspensive and easy to use." or that they can not work mark bass because "mark bass is much more advanced than ampeg svx".

I own both, and use the Ampeg for that classic bass sound that is used in countless hit records of the past few decades, and mark bass when I need a tighter sound, they both are deep, and they both are easy.....

Sorry for the rant, but for some reason this comment just hit me wrong...

It is pretty weird you'd resurrect such an ancient thread to take a swipe at chuck over that but in a way it's good for me because it reminded me I still need to buy MarkII.

And AFAIK MarkII is capable of the Ampeg sound... but I already have ways to do that as it is with my guitar sims so although I looooove Ampegs (real ones... the old vintage fridge beasts) it's not really something I NEED to drop coin on. I need more varied/powerful/flexible sounds for my needs (and to accomodate my lacklustre gear).

That's not to say if money tweren't a thang I wouldn't snag the IK (or the other sweet Ampeg emus out there) as well but I need a flexi tool.

I've also expanded my experience/education massively since I first posted this thread and most definitely think MarkII is going to be much more useful than a more single purpose plug. I hate to say it but on top of that, I've kind of gotten the impression IK stuff is a bit of a PITA compared to my experiences with Overloud products (which I own quite a few of now through Sonar and through upgrades I sought out) so I've shied away from their brand/model. So many other sims/companies I am dying to try out before I sink dough into IK stuff.

That said... their stuff does supposedly sound good, perhaps better than the others, but on a tight monetary and time budget that cash and study time can be put to better use elsewhere than a single use plugin... if that makes sense.

Also as a current Overloud customer I get a MUCH better deal on MarkII so that's a pretty big factor in itself.

tl;dr... I prefer flexible tools over boutique tools. Less overall money dropped and less time spent studying/wrangling with a new manufacturer.

Cripes, I seem to spend a huge chunk of time just trying to learn how various companies actually DELIVER their products without even opening a manual (I'm looking at you XLN... you weirdos).

I really like the Mark Studio Bass simulator, it's very versatile and my Bass playing friends say it sounds and feels like a Bass Amp (very close to an actual amp), and the tones are "Great!"

Good Luck..........

I've got both and haven't been using either lately.
On my last song I used Klanghelm's MJUC, the Free TSE sansamp pedal and an Ampeg 8X10 IR.

I used to be a diehard Audiffex GK Amp Pro user. Until I got Mark 2! You can get the SVT sound with Mark 2 fairly simply and still have all those other heads and cabs to boot. Some of the heads are a little overwhelming with all the features but once you study those knobs closer it is really pretty easy to get most anything that you can imagine out of it. I have Amplitube 3 (waiting on 4), Th2, GK, and Mark 2. Mark 2 is used 90% of the time. Sometimes, because of my addiction, I can not keep myself from using GK!

I have Mark 2, GK2, TH2 (use only 4 guitar though), Cerebus Bass Amp, SHB-1 use it with some nice cab impulses, pretty good, Virtual Bass Amp and Virtual Bass Amp Pro, Revalver 4 has some nice stuff for bass and Bias Amp and Bias Fx also does, and Guitar Rig, don't use it so much though. Some days one sounds good, some days it's another
