• SONAR
  • VST/app that provides a strumming engine for 3rd party guitar sounds?

Does anyone know of such a thing? Sorta like Strum GS2 but without the guitar sounds...if that makes sense.

Thanks

There are a couple of CAL scripts STRUM-IT and STRUMKEY. I do not recall ever using them. They both have comments at the top which describe their use. The only other solution I have for strumming is a real guitar and the JamOrigins MIDI Guitar plug-in.

Another thing to try, if you have Melodyne Editor, record a clean guitar strum using GS2 and convert it to MIDI.

RealGuitar strums. Its default mode is to play its own samples, but this can be disabled so that the output is changed to midi (rather than audio) which can then drive other VSTis.

Re this use of RealGuitar: see post #10 (by silktone) in this thread:

You might also try asking konradh, who uses RealGuitar a lot.

Also, if you have Kontakt, you can use Kontakt guitar libraries like the ones made by Orange Tree Samples (best in class IMHO), Indiginus (also superb, but less expensive) or I'd imagine even the bundled Kontakt Akkord guitar, all of which have strumming engines/ patterns, to -- like the RealGuitar technique I've mentioned -- send their output as midi which can drive other VSTis.   Find details here:

Let us know if these or these solutions work for you. I do know from experience that realistic strumming via midi can be really tough to do, but that all of the instruments I mentioned do an impressive job. There is a demo of RealGuitar you can try.
