Until we know exactly what your workflow is, any advice given could be rendered totally useless and/or inappropriate.
So..... how are you recording?
Now that I finally installed Addictive Drums, I am using that. I was using my DR-880 and doing all instruments on their own MIDI track and that was easy but the sounds on AD blow that thing away.
So, I made the drum map, then recorded HH, then BD then snare using AD. BUT I made new MIDI tracks for each instrument instead of recording them on one MIDI track (see image). So I'm ignoring all those tracks that are set up via the map.
Then I record audio (guitar, bass, vocals).
The downside to my individual track setup is that I cannot mix the drums. No volume sliders affect the sounds in AD for some reason. Not in SONAR itself and not in the AD mixer.
I just need to get in there an experiment but I have to balance that with getting this album finished.
I am using "Sound on sound" as well, so I'm not sure what's causing the sound to not be heard when recording. I have noticed that SONAR does that regardless, so I don't think it's specific to AD.
And I'm not sure if AD is causing this, but SONAR crashes (freezes) now that I'm using AD. Never did that before.
I need to experiment to see if maybe if AD doesn't like all the MIDI tracks pointing to it.
