  • [SOLVED] "Everett" - Sonar constantly freezing in PRV

I am getting constant freezes while working in the piano roll view since updating Sonar Platinum to "Everett". I'm able to move my cursor, but if I try to click on something, the screen does that transparent "whitewash" thing when a program is not responding and I must CTRL+ALT+DEL in order to close Sonar. Very frustrating as I spend most of my time in PRV. I have projects for clients with deadlines and this is really irritating. I never outwardly whine when I post that I'm having issues, but I'm going to whine right now. Only VERY RARELY did I ever have issues like this with X3. I really miss my stable Sonar. ;)

Any suggestions would be really appreciated!

Thank you everyone!

No one seems to believe us, but I agree that Everett is unstable and unpredictable, especially anything having to do with PRV in a heavily loaded project ... I rolled back to Dorchester.   The symptom of White Screen, flashing every 10-20 seconds, and never freeing up, was one I had never seen in any other Sonar before.    And I got it repeatedly in Everett.

Also, though this could have been user error, it took me many many many many hours to recover existing projects, as if the rollback had left something or other behind that was put in with Everett and that contributed to problems.

I believe you.  I am having the identical problems however mine is very random.  I can work for hours with no White Screen then sometimes I can't work for 5 minutes.  I have tried to track down the problem but with no success thus far.

I have had a number of other anomalies with Everett that I can't pinpoint the problem.  I never had problems with Platinum until Everett.

I guess you missed Dan Cate's post acknowledging problems with PRV display when the controller pane is open. I haven't seen whitescreens, but I have seen redraw delays when first opening the controller pane or changing its size, and when zooming the timeline with the controller pane showing. Dan indicated it should be fixed in an upcoming quickfix.

Hi all,
You may want to check out the thread "[SOLVED !!] Everett PRV playback and display issue"

I believe a fix for this is imminent

This problem has been fixed - it was an inefficiency in the drawing code when you have dense controller data.
We should release an update pretty soon to resolve it. You can temporarily resolve it by hiding the controllers pane.
If its a life and death situation and you cant wait a couple of days PM me and I'll try and get it to you :)

Great to hear! Looking forward to the update. Thanks for fixing this issue so quickly :)
Thanks to everyone else for chiming in and for the suggestions.

I thought it was just me, that I must be doing something wrong, but... fortunately I also have a copy of X3 on this computer, and I can load the same project which was created in Platinum up into X3, and it loads, and everything is fine.

If I load this project up in Platinum now, any attempt to edit midi data in the piano roll view invokes massive lags and "Not Responding".  Even trying to resize the piano roll view does that.

It's a large but not huge project:  27 tracks.  Works fine in X3, and it wasn't even created in X3, so that is my workaround for now:  go back to using X3, I guess.,

FTR, the DAW is on this hardware:

Asrock Z87, 32G DDR3 RAM @ 1600mhz
2 x 2TB Seagate barricudas @ 7200 RPM, + Intel disc acceleration on boot drive via 32GB SSD partition.,

Never had a problem like this before.

It has taken a while to load so many Kontakt instruments, and I have always got drop outs until they were fully loaded.   That's normal stuff.

This is not normal.  Windows like the piano roll view freeze (well, everything is affected), but it will play the thing back.  Just don't try to change anything because it's like running X-windows over a modem ;)

Help?

If you experience performance issues with kontakt try removing the convolution reverbs that are inserted with many of the presets. If you must use them put one on an aux bus.
