Try saving the project. Also (long shot) try clearing picture cache.

Why can I not see the thumbnail of thwe project just a black thumbnail with no picture

The thumbnail reflects the project's last save state. If the project has not been saved in Hopkinton it will just display the default thumbnail for a project file. When you save it should create the thumbnail with how your project last appeared.

I also notice that the open time for Sonar is increased by 5-6 seconds while the new start screen loads.

Maybe the initial time you run it, it is slow. Second time you start Sonar it is faster? (Cached).

Otherwise (speculation) that would appear to indicate the news feed (whilst downloading XML from the internet or whatever) is not working in it's own seperate process like the plugin scanner does (a fear I stated a few days ago). Or perhaps some things aren't being cached. Heaven forbid this does not end up like a Rap Pro startup issue.

Before jumping to a full conclusion it would be nice to hear feedback from others. Thx.

"Start Screen when offline" query:

Hi, just wondering if anyone has tried the new start screen without an internet connection.  Is there any delay while the program looks for the non-existent connection? (especially interested in Win7 behaviour)

CW-Do you use a "time out" approach or just look once?

Thanks.

The load time for the new start screen is easy to determine. Just go to File>start screen.

As for how much time it adds to the initial start my educated guess is about 2-3 seconds. I had previously timed the Sonar start on my system and it was 4-5 seconds on average. Now it is approx 7 seconds.

While that is not much it is noticeable.

Just wondering, is this with or without internet connection on?

With the internet on. I have not tried without. Honestly it's not much and I can see there may some benefit from it in the future so....
