  • Tranzport won't work... (p.2)

I was considering buying a Tranzport, I emailed sonar support and they told me they were experiencing problems getting it to work with Sonar.
That would be bad advice from SONAR support.  I've never had any problems with my Tranzport and SONAR.

Yes, SONAR support is badly misinformed. The TranzPort has always worked in SONAR. I have used it in every SONAR version since 2005. There is even a SONAR specific plugin that Frontier created that adds all kinds of extra features. The latest SONAR plugin v1.3.3 is working great for me in SONAR v8.5.3.

As an aside, I recently had to send my unit back to Frontier support (in NH) a couple of weeks ago to get fixed. The transmitter & USB receiver were not linking. I got it back about (10) days later all fixed and good as new. Apparently,
the USB receiver needed to be fixed so it could link with the receiver, but all is good now and working great in SONAR. Since it was out of warranty (I have had it almost 5 years now) it cost me about about $50 ($25 S/H roundtrip & $25 labor), but the email communication with Frontier support (Mike) and the fairly quick turnarund made me a happy customer. Anyway, I am glad I got my TranzPort working again. Man, I love that little thing!

Cheers,

Billy Buck,

Nice to a positive story about support! I've often considered getting a device such as the TranzPort, just never made the move. I'll be giving it further consideration after reading your post!

I wish you luck in finding one that is still available for sale (retail).

The "Bananas at Large" website claims to have them available (http://www.bananasmusic.c...Remote-Control).  Most other retailers indicate that it has been discontinued.

Uh, yeh. I just re-read the post. Sounds like the unit's LCD may be broken. However, low batteries can cause the LCD to dim to the point that it's unreadable. If the Tranzport's been sitting unused for a long time the battery terminals may be corroded. The first thing I'd do is pull the batteries, gently clean the terminals with a very fine-grit sandpaper and then install new batteries.

Thanks Bitflipper. I'm gonna give that a try eventually. I'll give the folks at Frontier a shout first and see what they say as they sound like they're nice folks who will help.

Incidentally, my LCD lights up fine with a healthy level of brightness but it could still be faulty none-the-less if nothing is readable on it.

I'll post back and let you know if I get any further forward.

Thanks everyone for chipping in here. You're help is much appreciated.

Hi again

Tried new batteries in the unit. Same thing unfortunately. No action on the LCD Screen except for it lighting up.

Thanks everyone for your help. Much appreciated.

Zipps.

Zipp, I don't think anyone has mentioned it and sorry if they did cause I just browsed through the post, but anyway, if the LCD contrast is all the way to the right, you won't see anything on the TranzPort screen. Try this

1. Press the Backlight button to turn off the back light (if you have it on, otherwise jump to step 2)
2. Press and hold the Backlight button and turn the wheel to the left. The LCD should say "Adjusting Contrast", keep turning to the left.

If that's it, the numbers should slowly start to appear on the LCD and continue turning the wheel and holding the backlight button until you are satisfied.

Hope this helps cause the Tranzport is a genius invention worth it's weight in diamonds :-). No home recordist should live without one (you can tell I'm in love with mine)

Good call, XLeviathax.  It sounds like the unit is functioning, but nothing is visible on the screen.  If your method fails, maybe he just plain has a broken LCD screen.

Yes, good call! I hope that's it, although I'm a little skeptical, based on a quick test here. I didn't lose or gain any characters, just saw an adjustment in the contrast.

Dunno  about the issue ... but just another person saying that my TranzPort works great with multiple versions of SONAR. It's one of the best purchases I've ever made and indepsendible for an engineer/musician ... a one-man-show.
