Why are BNC clock sync cable not more standard? Like why not just make them RCA? The hookups seem fragile and stick out.

Guitar center sells RCA adapters. So I was just curious what the advantages are.

BNC is properly designed for maintaining 75ohm impedance. That's why it gets used.

Thanks for the info. I just bought my first one.

BNC is actually a sturdier, locking connector.  RCA uses friction, so it can wear, slip, and fall out over time.  The cable impedance ratings of BNC word clock cables and RCA SPDIF are both 75 ohms.  The connector is rather irrelevant to that aspect of it.

My main concern is dropping my interface in my backpack. I care so much about it, I really don't want to break any of its functionality.

I've just added it to a small portable rack, so that should make it irrelevant. I still plan to slide out the tray to distribute inputs.

I can have the Rack near the drums with the Audient 8 channel pre.
Fiber and word clock reaches 3 meters to the RME UCX which has 4 inputs within 20 feet
Then a 8 foot snake of 1/4 jacks reaches to the RME Quad Mic for another 4.

This allows me to stretch my short mic cables around the room.

The only hassle is I have remove the RME devices before doing it, then replace them in the rack.

I'm kinda pleased with the solution though. Just hope no one steps (or spills) on anything critical.
