Will the respective VSTi then ask me where I put it/them?

Bonus question....

Now that own Rapture Pro are Dim Pro/Rapture LE/Rapture replaced with Rapture Pro in a project if I uninstall Dim Pro/Rapture LE/Rapture?

If memory serves me correct you can, I think you then just need to make a 'Directory Junction/Symbolic Link' (whatever it's called) or a registry edit to get everything happening. Again if I recall correctly (may have been another product) there was been talk about having the ability for the Rapture Pro substitution thing, don't think it is available at present, or indeed if it ever will.

[Edit] With Rapture Pro, I think all the stuff from Rapture and Dim Pro ends up (copies?) in the directory where your Rapture Pro stuff is, perhaps then there is no need for the originals any longer if you just use from Rapture Pro, but you would still have the 'old project replacement' issue.

No, takes a registry edit from memory.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software\Dimension Pro. Change the "MultiSamples Folder" to the correct path by double-clicking. Close the registry and re-launch Dimension Pro.

Similar for Rapture etc.

Also, now that I've moved the samples I think I couldn't care less about leaving the others installed. If I have a project that uses Dim Pro/Rapture LE/Rapture and I'm really going to do work in it I might as well as manually make the switch to Rap Pro and live with a few MB of program installs on my C: drive.

RPro will not automatically replace the legacy synths. For that to happen Cakewalk needs to add VST Persist Compatibility to RPro. They did it for TH3 Cakewalk but have not done it to their own plug-ins. You can point the legacy plug-ins to the RPro sample and program paths. Since the program paths are hard coded in the legacy synths, you will need to use directory junctions to point to the imported programs in RPro. You will also need to copy the root of the Rapture mutlisample folder to get the wavs used by Rapture. Keep that root in a safe place. Should you ever have to reinstall RPro, the current installer deletes the wav files from the root. RPro uses flac which Rapture cannot handle.

Or blow off the old programs and deal with missing plug-ins when a project references a legacy synth

I've moved all my Cakewalk instrument (Dim Pro, Rapture, Studio Instruments, Addictive Drums) samples over to my library drive, no registry edit necessary if you leave a symbolic link in the original location.

Bit,

I've hacking the registry since before there was a registry.

My XLN installer allows me to place my samples (which I did).

Rapture Pro allowed me to place my samples (which I did).

I've moved and hacked the registry for Dim Pro and Rapture.

I left Rapture LE alone. Too small to worry about.

I'm all good now.

Ed, The full blown rapture and DimPro programs don't recognize saved LE information. So, if you have projects with LE stuff loaded, best to bounce to track all LE instances before uninstalling LE. Or, the easy way, don't uninstall LE.
