That's a drag and definitely not good for pro users. I love so much about X2 and Cakewalk in general but I just don't know if I'd be able to have a pro studio based solely on it. I'd probably keep a backup program around just in case I hit a wall and I see a lot of our big studio forum members keep multiple DAWs on hand. I'm starting to think I should pick up Reaper in hopes that the things I can't accomplish with reasonable ease in Sonar can be done there. I definitely don't want to have to learn a whole new platform though and last time I installed the demo it confused the heck out of me. Would probably make a little more sense now that I've got some general knowledge on DAWs though.

But I truly adore X2. I just wish ALL aspects of it would work reliably... or at least the features I need to use. That however is an ever expanding list.

Word!

This is the second real issue I have had with X1 or X2. The first being M-Audios fault with shoddy drivers so I had to buy a second sound card to work in a stable fashion with Sonar, this has turned out to be a blessing in disguise as the Delta 1010 works flawlessly with Pro Tools so I have a backup DAW and Card if things go wrong in Sonar. Essentially like having 2 studios in one box (I can even have Sonar and PT running at the same time which I never thought would work!)

Like you, I adore Sonar, I have been using it since 1997 (well Cakewalk Pro Audio back then) and I have zero desire to change, I just wish they would think of us Sound in Film guys when they dev.

I wish I could upgrade Nuendo as my backup but is an ancient version and all the reg info is loooong gone. Wouldn't be able to afford it anyway. I need to do some work on my old system before I could deem it trustworthy again but it does still work with my Layla. I think it just needs a new graphics card and to be pulled apart and cleaned. I'd like to get some new drives for it too but it's all IDE. It was weird booting that old XP rig up to get at my files. Everything is so blocky and weird looking after using 7. lol

Edit: Oh and the point was I would very much like to work with audio for film (lots of contacts in the film industry). I could very likely get away with doing all the syncing up to video even with that old version and do the fancy music making in Sonar. I guess I'd just have to get the basic structure of the soundtrack down in Nuendo, toss it into Sonar to do the audio then send the final version back into Nuendo. IDK... may not work as well as I think but in theory if it's just waves and the timecodes are accurate I don't see why not.

I fired up my old Commodore 64 the other day to play on Microrythm! Now that was weird!!! :D

Hate to dig up an old thread - but I am having the exact same issue (one year later!!??!!).  Sonar X3 crashes after the find audio query on importing an omf.  Has a solution been found for this?  Maybe a better way for the .omf to be exported from the video editor?

I basically have to import the OMF into Pro Tools, then export it then open it in Sonar.

Thanks for the reply.  I am trying to find the source software for this omf.  There's got to be a setting somewhere in the export of the file that Sonar does not like.  I have imported many omfs into Sonar successfully - it is just that this one totally crashes Sonar.  I notice that it does convert one audio file and put it in the project audio directory each time before it crashes.  Weird.

Sonar has been wonky with OMF's for as long as I can imagine...Its also got worse since X2 (no idea why).... For some reason exported Premiere OMFs are usually OK but FCP is always bad for me, also anything thats Mac exported (I am talking video software here and not audio platforms)..

So, like i said above, using PT as a hop *always* works. Thats all i use PT for, a very expensive OMF/AAF transportation device.

I'd like to add my voice to the cries for help on the OMF import issue.

I have been attempting to import OMF V2's that came from Adobe Audition.  The symptoms are exactly the same as the other reports; first file/track, then crash. These same failing OMF's import into both Pro Tools 9 (Windows) and Logic Pro X.

Is there some test scenario or export option that I should check to narrow down (or even fix) this problem?
